Positivity Project
Under the guiding principles of our districtwide initiative, the Positivity Project, the #PositivityinAction mindset is our top priority. These past two weeks we focused on the character strengths of PRUDENCE and PERSEVERANCE.
People with the character strength of prudence plan for the future and achieve their goals by making careful everyday choices.
Our 1st inaugural Mental Health Matters Week, which ran from January 11th-15th, was where Lake Shore Public Schools and our local partners teamed up to spread awareness about the importance of mental health and to celebrate the resilience in you.
We kicked off our week by having Senior President Lexi Batayeh and members from Lake Shore High School’s Class of 2021 and Student Council leaders from Violet Elementary give pieces of advice through these powerful lawn signs that will rotate in front of buildings. It is important to make prudent decisions about your mental health.
People with the character strength of perseverance complete what they start despite obstacles. They never give up.
Our Homework Club at Kennedy Middle School is an important spot for all students to get assistance on their assignments. Intervention Specialists Mrs. Livernois, Mrs. May, and Mr. Wilson create a welcoming environment that applauds perseverance as students work through academic challenges. Roughly one-third of students use Homework Club with the majority of assistance in mathematics and language arts.
Sixth grader Ruby Pokorske enjoys Homework Club because she can avoid the distractions at her home by using this school space. She added, "It is a calming place where I feel free to ask questions." She also complimented the work of Intervention Specialist Mrs. Livernois by writing, "She works so hard, yet is so kind to everyone. I would like to thank her for getting me this far. I have moved schools my whole life, but for once, I love this school and will work harder every semester!"
2021 is throwing a lot of challenges our way. Tapping into our positive relationships and our character strengths, by demonstrating #PositivityInAction, will be critical in helping us be resilient and successful in the face of these tough times.
Looking forward, our upcoming character strengths are SUPPORTING OTHERS WHEN THEY STRUGGLE (1/24-1/30) and INTEGRITY (1/31-2/6).
