Unit 2: Opinion

We will begin focusing on opinion writing in the form of personal and persuasive essays. We will start by introducing an essay structure that clearly organizes a student's thesis statement and reasons of support. This is referred to as boxes and bullets. This week we will focus on how to collect ideas by thinking about people and places in our lives, and then grow those ideas through elaboration.

This Week in Reading

Unit 2: Non-Fiction

In reading class this week, we've focused on three types of nonfiction, which are biography, reference, and literary nonfiction. We also have been learning about nonfiction text features, which help us understand what we are reading. Thank you for being sure that your child is reading daily for 35 minutes. They need to meet their reading goal by the end of the quarter, which is October 30.
