Christian Evers Elementary-Week of November 30, 2020
Better Together-Monday Mail
A Message from Principal Hernandez
Greetings Evers Families,
We hope that your Thanksgiving vacation has been restful. We look forward to finishing this second 9 weeks strong!
For our In-Person families, please assist us in being consistent with your child’s attendance. We have asked families that have selected in-person learning to commit with daily in-person attendance during the 9-week period. Please do not interrupt this routine since it is difficult for our staff to monitor progress when your child’s learning model is changed from in-person to virtual learning throughout the week. If you choose to keep your child as a virtual learner at any time, please contact our Evers Front Office so that we can adjust this parent selection in our system. (This option does not apply to virtual learners.)
We will also continue to follow our district’s guidelines by following health protocols and safety measures that have been put in place at our campus. We will continue to use face masks, conduct the daily screener, check your child’s temperature, practice frequent hand washing, clean highly used surfaces and socially distance in the building. Please do not send your child to school if they have a fever or if they are sick. We will immediately contact families to pick up their child and our school nurse will provide you with further guidelines.
Please take time to review school news below.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please call the office at 210-397-2550.
Let's have a great week Unicorns!

November 30 Announcements
Vision and Hearing Screenings
The state of Texas mandated screenings for hearing, vision, and Antes will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2020 for our in person students in 1st, 3rd, and 5th grades, and hearing and vision screenings for 2nd and 4th graders that are new to NISD.
The screening for Antes (Acanthosis Nigricans) is done by visually looking for skin markers on the back of the neck. These markers are associated with high insulin levels and are considered a risk factor for Type 2 Diabetes. Students with the skin marker will be individually assessed for height, weight, and blood pressure, and a written referral with the results of the assessment will be sent home.
If you DO NOT want your child to participate in this screening program, please send written notification indicating the screening you are declining for your child to our school nurse prior to Thursday, December 3, 2020.
In lieu of the screenings provided by the school:
1. Parents/guardians may provide a recent screening record signed by a licensed profession or doctor.
2. The Texas Department of State Health Services allows parents or guardians to provide a statement that the vision, hearing, antes, or spinal screenings conflict with the tenets and practices of a church or religious denomination of which the affiant is an adherent or member.
Please stay tuned for a date inviting our virtual learners to campus to participate in these screenings.
Early Release Days
Beginning in January 2021, six Teacher Planning Time/Student Early Dismissal Days have been added to this year’s school calendar. On these days, teachers at every level will have an additional three hours of planning time.
The dates are Wednesdays on Jan. 13, Jan. 27, Feb. 24, March 24, April 28, and May 19.
Elementary schools will dismiss at 11:45 a.m., middle schools at 12:40 p.m., and high schools at 1 p.m. For families who need it, adult supervision will be available at all elementary schools, so students can remain on campus until the end of the normal school day. Learning Tree will also be available at traditional times.
