Cedar Grove Friday Flash
March 4, 2022
Dear Cedar Grove Families,
As you may already be aware, the Board of Education will discuss updating the mask policy at its March 8 meeting. In the meantime, masks continue to be required in all MCPS buildings. More information is available here: https://ww2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/press/index.aspx?pagetype=showrelease&id=13115&type=&startYear=&pageNumber=&mode=
Also, you may have heard that due to systemwide closures, MCPS must make up three instructional days for this school year to meet the state-required days of instruction. These changes include:
- Friday, April 1, 2022, originally scheduled as professional day for teachers will now be an early release day at 1:20 p.m.
- Wednesday, June 15, 2022, originally scheduled to be an early release day, will now be a full day of instruction.
- Thursday, June 16, 2022 is now a full day of school.
- Friday, June 17, 2022 is now the last day of school and is an early release day at 1:20 p.m.
Please click on the link below for more details.
On March 1, MCPS moved from a 10-day isolation and quarantine period for students to a five-day isolation and quarantine, if certain health conditions are met. This aligns with requirements for staff and the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Maryland Department of Health and the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services. More details are available here: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/coronavirus/quarantine.aspx
We are so excited to share that our first Spirit Night at Manhattan Pizza resulted in a donation to our school in the amount of $400.00! Thank you for participating in raising funds for our school while enjoying a great meal! Our next Spirit Night will be at Villa Maya, 12051 Chestnut Branch Way, Clarksburg, MD on Wednesday, March 16 from 4:00-10:00 p.m. Families can dine in or carry out.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Mr. Derby and Mrs. German
Please Complete the MCPS Antiracist System Audit Survey
We need your help to better understand how our schools and the school district are doing as part of our ongoing work to address racial and systemic barriers in Montgomery County Public Schools.
We encourage you to fill out this survey before March 31. You can use your mobile device or computer. The survey is part of a larger process called the MCPS Antiracist System Audit. You can learn more about the audit here.
The survey, which is anonymous and available in seven languages, will ask you about your family’s experiences with your child’s school and MCPS. The goal of the survey is for us to better understand how racism affects teaching, learning and parent engagement.
Students in grades 4 through 12 will also take an age-appropriate, anonymous version of the survey in class between March 1 and March 31. Each school will schedule its own date.
Key information about the surveys and audit:
Parents, students and staff from these organizations were actively involved in providing input and feedback on the survey questions. Sample questions and more information about the surveys can be found here.
A report will be sent to MCPS by the end of June. The report will provide results for MCPS as a whole and by each school.
MCPS will communicate the report’s findings to the community.
This website will provide updatess.

March Book Madness
We've voted for our first 8 books and now it's time to vote for the second 8 books! The ballot for the second ballot is available here, and from the News page on the homepage and from the March Media Monthly. This ballot will eliminate 8 of the 16 books in the bracket so it's a big deal!
Submit Your Child's Jokes for the Morning News Show!
It's back! Starting in mid-March with our next crew, we will have a joke column on the morning news show and we need your jokes! Please fill out this form and submit your jokes! We can't wait to make each other laugh first thing in the morning!
Earth Day Project
As we do every year, we honor Earth Day at Cedar Grove. This year, we will again create a video of our students letting us know about a promise they are making to our Earth. Please fill out this form with your student -- one per student please -- and submit it by March 18. All videos and photographs are due to Mrs. Hirschhorn by April 8. We cannot wait to see all the promises Cedar Grove is making!
Bear Day Information!
May seems like a long way away, and yet...we know it will be upon us in no time! We are going to have our traditional Bear Day celebration on May 20. Save that date! But we cannot do this without parent volunteers. Please take a moment to read this letter, which explains everything in more detail!
