SNAPSHOTS OF
LEARNING WEEK#2!
Newsletter For the Week of September 16 through 20th
Hello from the Yelle.
We have had another tremendous week here at the HAY!
As I wrote last week, the same thing occurred this week with everything running so incredibly smoothly no one would not be able to know that this isn't our normal set-up for classrooms in how well everyone supported each other and worked as a community. It was amazing. The 5th Graders like being closer to this 4th Grade Teachers and Classrooms, and we are having some great collaboration happening from the current set-up.
Dr. Baeta is sending out an update tonight to families on how the construction project is progressing.
It is never as quick as one would like, but in the meantime, I can't say enough about how well our faculty, staff, and students are thriving through this situation. I said at the Open House, this is going to make the year even more memorable as we can all show how flexible we can be in order to be successful.
We have some news to talk about in terms of the Yelle Band, our upcoming PTO meeting on Thursday, and our continued PBIS initiative below. Please also check out some of the great pictures from Twitter this past week as they speak to our engaging students in their learning in all types of creative ways.
A packet of important papers to sign off went home last week, please ask your child. Again, if they did not make it home, please just let us know. We can get them to you. Sign-off below as well.
Below you will find a detailed Calendar of events for this coming week and other important dates as well. Please check it out.
Please continue to check out this newsletter either through your email, Twitter, or from the Yelle website, and please let me know if you would like or need more updates and/or communication from our school.
Enjoy the weekend.
Thanks,
Marty

News from the Yelle Band
Dear Fourth Grade Yelle Families:
On Friday, September 13, in class, your child was given a letter which provides information about the Yelle Fourth Grade Band (attached below). If your child is interested in learning a band instrument, please fill out the bottom portion of the form and return it to your child's classroom teacher as soon as possible. Dr. Bianca, the Yelle music teacher will reach out to you with further details and information once he has received your completed form.
The Yelle fourth grade band rental night will take place on Wednesday, September 18th from 6:30pm-8pm. It will be held in the Yelle cafeteria. You will be able to pick up your child's instrument at that time. Yelle fourth grade band will begin the week of Monday, September 30.
Any and all questions should be directed to Dr. Bianca at pbianca@norton.k12.ma.us.
Thank you!

HAY PBIS -- Let's Catch the Positive!
September 10, 2019
Dear Yelle Families:
This year at the Yelle, we will continue to implement our Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) to support students in understanding the expected behaviors throughout our school community.
Having a school-wide behavioral approach incorporates everyone. Students are able to see that all Yelle staff support them and equally contribute to our school’s success and safety. We have designed an expectation grid for lunch, recess, and dismissal, as well as the bus, the classroom, the hallway, and even the bathroom. These expectations are posted in the specific areas of our school. Our school-wide expectations matrix specifically states all of our expectations and is attached to this letter for your information. During the month of September, the expected behaviors will be explicitly taught, modeled and practiced. These behaviors are continually reviewed and revisited throughout the school year.
At the Yelle, we maintain three core expected behaviors:
WE ARE RESPECTFUL
WE ARE RESPONSIBLE
WE ARE SAFE
Students are reminded on a daily basis what it means to exhibit these expected behaviors. When they are caught displaying expected behaviors, students are rewarded with hashtags. Hashtags are used throughout the school to promote positive behaviors. Students also participate in “Hashtag Challenges” throughout the year. These challenges highlight expected student behaviors in a specific location in our school.
In addition to acknowledging positive behaviors, we will be promoting positive character traits as a school community. Students can also earn hashtags by displaying our Trait of the Month. Each month, we will be focusing on a trait that will strengthen our social relationships. September’s trait of the Month is empathy!
We are excited to continue this initiative for the 2019-2020 school year! Our initial roll out last school year was very successful, and we are looking forward to continuing to expand and reinforce our expected behaviors. Be sure to ask your fourth or fifth grader about our expected behaviors and how they are earning hashtags throughout the day!
Thank you for your support and involvement in your child’s education,
The Yelle PBIS Committee
