Parent Note from Mr. Smith
The end of this school year has been much different than any of us could have expected. It was definitely not the way we wanted to end off our school year, especially for our 8th-grade students. We are going to miss all of them very much! Please read the information below carefully to see how we will plan to end the school year and get everything collected and handed back out to students. Parents, thank you so much for all of your support through this and helping to make sure your child has turned in everything that has been required of them.

If you are worried about any damages to the Chromebook during this time, please find a safe place in your home to store over the summer. Students who are not returning or are moving may drop off their Chromebook AND charger at the District Office Chromebook Depot during normal operating hours.
*8th Grade Celebration - Since we are not able to celebrate with our 8th-grade students at the end of the school year, we are hoping to plan a back-to-school dance for them in late August or early September. We will send out an email in August letting you know if we are able to do this for our 8th-grade students as they get ready to move on to high school.
*Medications - If you have medications at the school, Nurse Rosa should have already been in contact with you about a scheduled pick-up time. If you have not been contacted and still need to retrieve any medication at the school, please email Nurse Rosa.

Valuable Information for Students Without Internet
If you do not have internet service at home, there are a few options students may be able to use.
1. Most cell phone services allow you to use your phone as a hot spot temporarily.
2. Internet is available near the building, so students may be able to access the internet from school parking lots.
Once students access the internet, they may download the documents they need and work on them offline at home. Offline access information is listed below. Lastly, Charter Spectrum is working on opening internet service for all during this crisis. We are hoping they work swiftly.
Technology Tips
Some of your teachers may ask you to take a screenshot of your work and send it to them. Below is a video that demonstrates how to take a screenshot on a Chromebook.
How to Take a Screenshot on a Chromebook
If you or your student is having Chromebook issues they can contact the District Technology Depot at 864-222-4911 located at the District Office. Technology support will be available from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm Monday - Friday.
Yearbook News from Mr. Powell
Parents,
This has been a crazy end to the 2020 school year. Up until the school closure caused by the COVID-19 pandemic though, it had been an awesome year filled with arts, friendships, fun school events, etc. and the yearbook staff and I covered every bit of it! The Southwood Academy yearbook is finished, and it’s going to be amazing! We—both as a school and as a yearbook staff—feel so sad that your child and his or her friends have missed out on spring school activities and simply being with friends and classmates. We absolutely do not want the yearbook to be one more thing your student misses out on! Yearbooks are a strong tradition in all schools and especially at Southwood Academy of the Arts, and we’re confident your child would appreciate this constant in a school year upended.
If you are not sure if you ordered a yearbook, check the list of student who have ordered yearbooks below. If you have not ordered a yearbook, it is not too late! Use the link to order a yearbook below.
