Back to School Night!

We would like to thank our Jerabek Community for their wonderful participation and attendance at Back to School Night this past Thursday for UTK and Grades 1-5.

Kindergarten Back to School Night is this Thursday, August 31st at 5:00 PM in your child's classroom. Be on the lookout for more information from you child's teacher.

Back to School Packets

Back to School Packets were sent home Thursday, August 24th with students. This letter was sent home with the packets. We apologize for the conflicting date on the letter in the packets. The return date for the following information is FRIDAY, September 1st.

Documents To Return (Due Friday, September 1st):

  • Student Enrollment Form

    • Review and update all information on both sides, signature required (Emergency contacts must be up to date). For the protection of your student, no adult may take your child out of school unless their name is listed on their “Student Enrollment Form” along with state ID.

    • If you have moved, provide proof of residency (copy of utility bill, mortgage, or lease).

    • Include ALL adults you are authorizing to pick up your child during the school day. Use the “Notes/Additional Information/Legal Bindings” section if needed (Full name and phone number). District policy dictates that we cannot take authorizations over the phone.

  • Facts For Parents (booklet)

    • Universal Form (last two pages in booklet), completed and signed.

  • Jerabek Library Authorization Card

  • Health Information Exchange Consent (gold)

Run for Fun - Soft Start for the Running Club!

Run for Fun starts this Tuesday, August 29! Run for fun allows students (and adults if they would like to join) to enjoy running field laps before run club scanning starts. Back gate opens at 8:15. Adults, if you would like to stay and watch, please stay on the fence line and exit by 8:30. Please stay tuned for the official running club start date and more info.

San Diego Unified School District reviews all renrollment numbers the third week of school to adjust staffing. If third Friday numbers decrease sites may lose teachers and if enrollment numbers increase sites may have an increased teacher allocation. Current Jerabek enrollment numbers indicate we are over our enrollment projection. This may result in an increase in our teacher allocation. Currently, our classrooms are full and we currently have combo classrooms. An increase will allow for equitable class sizes.

For the first three weeks, all classroom placements are tentative until enrollment numbers are reviewed.

UTK and Kindergarten will return to full days this week, August 28 - Spetember 1st. Dismissal will be at 3:05 PM.

Students may arrive any time after 8:15 a.m. unless they are participating in the morning SAY program.

  • Play Structures: We ask that children and their siblings not play on playground equipment in the morning before school begins. When students arrive they are to go to the field (when running club starts), breakfast in the cafeteria, or head to their classroom line.

  • Breakfast is served in the cafeteria for free. Students may sit in the cafeteria if they are eating breakfast. Once they are finished, they must head to their classroom line or the field. If your student is eating breakfast please plan ahead to ensure they are finished by the time school begins.

Students are released by their teachers at 3:05 p.m. each day except on Thursday and all other minimum days when students are released at 12:25 p.m. Please pick your child up according to the dismissal map. Please plan ahead!

If you need to pick up your child early, please plan ahead. If you call the office ahead of time or send a note, we will have you child ready for pick up at the specified time. We understand that unforseen early pick-up is necessary. If you are able, call ahead to allow us 15 minutes to locate your child (especially at recess and lunch times). Please be mindful that your child will be waiting for your arrival. We do not want your child waiting for an extended period of time. Ensure that you have your ID for sign-out!

Thank you for your consideration and patience!

Campus safety is Jerabek's top priority. Teachers, support staff, school police services, and community organizations work together to prevent, prepare, and respond to emergency situations. CAMPUS SAFETY INCLUDES TRAFFIC SAFETY...THE DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP OF STUDENTS!

Attendance is a Jerabek focus this year! All California schools are funded based on ADA - Average Daily Attendance. Prompt and regular attendance is important at all times. When your child must be absent for any reason, please report the absence using this Google Form or call the office at (619) 605-1700 (Press 1) by 9:00 a.m. every day of non-attendance, giving the exact reason for the absence. Contact Susan Gallego at with any questions.

Thank you for your support!

Due to a high assortment of student food restrictions, food will not be allowed for birthday celebrations. Occasionally your classroom teacher may plan an educational experience in the classroom that may involve food. Teachers will work closely with parents, our school nurse, and health technician to ensure all dietary allergies and restrictions are being followed.

Labor Day is on the first Monday of September every year and is a national holiday in the US. It has its origins in the labor movement and is a day to celebrate American workers.

Hydration Station Installation Update!

Jerabek is currently in the final stages of the Hydration Station Installation Project. This project involves replacing all sinks with Hydration Stations.

Thank you for sending your students with water bottles, hydro-flasks, etc. This has been very helpful while we conclude this installation project. We do have limited bottles of water available for students in each classroom. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO LABEL WATER BOTTLES & HYDRO-FLASKS WITH YOUR STUDENT'S NAME AND ROOM #.

EVERY student is welcome to join us for FREE Breakfast and Lunch each school day.

  • Universal FREE Meals start the first day of the 23-24 School Year.

  • Breakfast is served from 8:15-8:25 in the cafeteria.

Family Faculty Organization of Jerabek Elementary School

The Family Faculty Organization of Jerabek Elementary School, or FFO, is an organization similar to a PTA, made up of parents, community members, and staff who work together to provide students with added enrichment to their existing curriculum. Everyone who has a child at Jerabek is automatically a member of the FFO.

The FFO bridges the annual gap on hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding that is not given to school, teachers, and families due to service area’s median incomes. 97 cents of every dollar donated to the FFO goes directly back into programs and services for Jerabek Elementary families.

Jerabek will work closely with the FFO to streamline & align communications and increase accessibility. Our weekly newsletter will always include the button below, Jerabek FFO Newsletter, for a direct link to current FFO information.
