Shout Outs!!
Shout out to Mrs. Arrington and Mrs. Bui for outstanding results in the Algebra DCA. 75% of the students scored in the Masters category! 23% scored in the Meets category. Keep up the great work!!
Shout out to Ms. Matchett and the 8th grade social studies team: Mr. Loredo, Mrs. Morrison and Mr. Rieck for being first (AGAIN!) in the district on DCA#2. As a campus we were at 76% passing! I am really worried about losing my hair...
Shout out to our CIS team Mrs. Jones and Ms. Archer for helping our students learn about healthy eating habits with the help of UT Health Education.
Shout out to Minh Tran for getting state recognition on her Duke TIP performance!
Do you have a "shout out" you would like to share with the staff? Send it to Mr. Lopez via e-mail or text! Subject line: Shout out!
Content Feature - The Heart of the School - Library
Most of us grew up with the traditional library as a quiet, dusty place for shushing and independent work. You may have noticed that this is not the case in our library! Part of our mission this year is to offer additional programming that speaks to student interest, and which can be pleasantly noisy at times. Our students have been taking advantage of both daily before-school hours & after-hours library on Tuesdays and Thursdays for homework and community. We have continued with our coding club, as well as the Cover to Cover Book Club, which visited Teen Book Con in Clear Creek ISD in March; students were thrilled to meet authors in person and be among other readers from all over Houston. The student-led Rubik’s Cube club began in April with cubes lent to our school by You Can Do the Cube.
Another goal is to increase collaboration between staff and the library. We showed the 7th grade GT class how to use Adobe Spark and Thinglink for book presentations, and taught how to identify primary sources to GT classes for their research projects. For the past month, students have been working in the library in collaborative groups, which requires noise and conversation—resulting in enhanced learning. We are looking forward to hosting the GT Showcase coming up, as well as assisting with the ESL Showcase in the library in May. We wrote and were awarded an Alief Foundation Grant to collaborate with the Science department on virtual reality headsets, which will bring our kids on virtual field trips and views inside organisms. Stop by anytime and see how the library can help you!
