Chapter 11
lesson 2 science
Motion
Motion- A change in an object's position compared to fixed objects around it...............example- someone riding a bike
force
Any push or pull........ example: pushing a chair
Newtons laws of motion
The first law
An object in motion stays in motion and an object at rest stay at rest unless acted upon Ex- you have a shirt on the floor when you go to bed and when you wake up its still there
The second law
The acceleration (speed and direction) of an object is dependent upon the force acting on the object and the mass/weight of the object Ex- Jenna is golfing she hits a ping pong ball and golf balls...... The golf balls fly 50ft and the ping pong balls only go 10ft
The third law
Every action has an equal and opposite reaction Ex- a balloon flies forward when air quickly escapes from it
Newton's law of universal gravitation
The planets, the stars, and all the particles of matter exert gravitational force
