Principal's Message
We had a busy March at Monte Vista. Students have been using technology to enhance their classroom work. They have been learning how to pull facts from informational texts, gain additional information for literature circles, and how to use technology for research projects.
Students were also busy at work in their classrooms with activities like marshmallow math, making ancestor dolls, learning about erosion, making leprechaun traps, and art docent projects. Our third graders even had a special visit from our school nurse where they learned about nutrition, healthy eating, and reading food labels.
Students got off campus this month too for some adventures to Rohnert Park Public Safety, the public library, and Ag Day at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds. We also had students participate in special events. Three Monte Vista students were chosen as Future Chefs Finalists and competed in a cooking challenge at Lawrence Jones Middle School. We also had a team of Mountain Lions represent us at the North Bay Science Challenge!
Back on campus, we started the month with our Books & Breakfast Reading to celebrate reading in honor of Dr. Seuss (it was his birthday!). We also had a Garden Workday where volunteers and staff cleaned up and beautified our wonderful MV Garden. Our 4th graders also excitedly welcomed some new classmates with their Steelhead Trout eggs, which began to hatch towards the end of the month. We finished the month in style, with staff sporting their Autism Awareness shirts in honor of Autism Awareness month (April).
As we move towards the end of the school year, there is still a lot to do. We are always appreciative of the wonderful support we receive from MV families and we are excited to see you all at our Open House so our staff and students can show off their many accomplishments from this school year! Please make sure to join us on Thursday, April 26th at 6:00pm for this family-friendly event, which includes our PTA silent auction! We hope to see you there!
Safe Routes to Schools Green Sneaker Challenge
The Green Sneaker Challenge is starting! Students will receive a Green Sneaker Challenge card to attach to their backpack where they can earn a stamp for walking or biking to school on our Walk & Roll days of April 10th, 17th, 24th, and May 1st. On the last day of the challenge, students will turn in their cards and become eligible to win our raffle prize of 2 tickets to the Charles Schulz Museum! (If you want to participate, but live to far away to walk, you can park a few blocks away from school and walk from there to qualify).
