In Reading, we have been discussing famous American Explorers: Lewis and Clark and their guide Sacagawea. Throughout this story, we have focused on the skill of main idea and supporting details. We have also read stories in Time For Kids focused on this skill. Students really enjoyed connecting our main selection with other texts.
This week we focused on the skills related to a personal narrative. We discussed how to start our story with an exciting lead, the importance of adding sensory details, and how to correctly write paragraphs. Students enjoyed picking small moments from their lives to write about. We also spent some time sharing our proud pieces with one another.
Our new unit, Reflections and Symmetry has allowed 4S to use some new and exciting tools! This week students looked at transparent mirrors and used them to draw reflections and understand the meaning of a line of reflection. We also played two very fun games : darts and pocket billiard. Ask students about this fun game!
Kinex and Motion and Design!
Students have been learning about the different laws of motion in our new science unit. Students are working in teams to build various vehicles and test for force and friction.
A Special Field Trip!
This week, students ventured to the high school to learn more about Earth Day! We saw animals from Cedar Run, learned about how to properly dispose of trash, how to help protect oceanic animals, and so many more things! Our field trip was followed by a trash free lunch! It was a fantastic day!
