'Christ not only revealed to us the truth in his teachings. He lived by what he believed and gave us the strength to try to do the same – and, finally, on the cross, he showed the supreme example of physical and moral courage.' - Her Majesty The Queen
Dear whānau,
Unfortunately I missed Room Ruru's Monday prayers but I have heard they did a fantastic job of reflecting on the biblical phrase 'love thy neighbour' and sharing the neat art work they had done to go with it. I did however get to go to their class Mass today and I was really impressed with their reverence and effort. Ka pai Room Ruru, Miss Smith and Judy.
How great has the weather been this week? All the kids in the school have enjoyed another day out learning cricket skills with Jack from Southland Cricket today, you know they're loving it when you can hear them cheering each other on from down at the office.
I was very lucky to spend the first two days of this week with our awesome year 5 students at camp in Dunedin. It looks quite different to our year 6 camp in that all the activities are indoors and we spent the night sleeping in the Otago Museum. We kicked off camp with some tenpin bowling and the staff there loved the kids and their manners so much (no surprises there) that they gave us a trophy to take home with us, it's not just any trophy either, it's really, really big and shiny. In the interest of having a semi decent sleep that night, our next activity was climbing at Clip n Climb and jumping around lots at Leap, and I must say it worked fairly well.
We spent the rest of the day and that night at the museum. We got to explore the Tūhura Science Centre, learn more about Egypt and Mummies (and meet the one that lives there) and mummify Nate and of course, we did the infamous 'Night Walk'. On Tuesday we hunted for some facts around the different gallaries and then spent some time with the butterflies. The hydroslide at Moana Pool was certainly a highlight, and they ate up large at the Great Taste Buffet before we headed home. There are some photos below, more can be found on our Facebook page.
Thank you to all our enthusiastic parent helpers for giving up their time to make sure the kids had a great time. On a side note, all our parents of year 5 students should be super proud of their kids, they all had a go at every activity even if they were a bit nervous about it to start, they were respectful at every activity and towards every adult and each other, and the best thing to watch was the way they encouraged and looked after each other.
One week to go, boy does time fly when you're having fun. Don't forget, we're not a school on Monday as we have a public holiday to acknowledge the loss of the Queen.
Please remember, if you have something you'd like us to celebrate in the newsletter, send me through a picture and a wee blurb by Thursday 9am each week and I'll make sure it gets in - mallory.hood@stmarys.school.nz
Have a great weekend with your families.
God bless,
Mallory

I didn't have to write anything about the school vision in my message up the top this week because this fantastic kid has summed it up for me. Ka pai, Lachlan! It made my day reading your special writing. Thank you for sharing - I know Miss S and Rachael are very proud of your work, Mum and Dad will be too.
