Irons Jr. High Newsletter
We Are Hawks!
February
Irons Family,
Can you believe it is almost February! Even with all the covid-19 focus, the year is moving fast. Believe it or not, we are planning for the next school year, and the planning process starts with you and your child's choice of courses for next year. Starting next week, you will receive a newsletter or emails with all the information needed to complete the course selection process for your next school year at Irons or ORHS. I encourage you to often refer to this information and keep an eye on due dates.
If you are in 8th grade, I encourage you to take a look at the ORHS website for information on cheer and drill tryouts, athletic and band information, along with details on activities that take place at ORHS. I will be sending out information from ORHS as it comes available. We are working to make the transition to the next grade as smooth as possible.
Spring sports will start soon, including track, tennis, golf, and soccer. If your student is planning on trying out for these sports, they must have a physical loaded online in the SPORTSWARE app before tryouts. If your student does not have a physical on file, please do not wait until the last minute. If you have any questions, you can find the needed information on our athletic website https://irons.conroeisd.net/department/directory/athletics/ or reach out to one of our coaches.
Cheer clinic and tryouts are scheduled for March 8-11 for our current 6th and 7th grade students. All information can be found on the Irons Cheer website https://kneal3.wixsite.com/cheer.
Drill clinic and tryouts are scheduled for April 12-15 for our current 6th and 7th grade students. All information can be found on the Irons Drill Team https://rbachman.wixsite.com/libertystars .
Please encourage your child to wear face coverings throughout the school day. We will continue practicing distancing in the classrooms, halls, and cafeteria. Additionally, we will continue to limit access to the building to staff and students only.
We need to do everything possible to keep our school safe and open for face to face learning. You can help by doing the following:
1. send your child to school with a mask every day
2. talk to your child about how they should wash their hands or use our hand sanitizer stations throughout the school day
3. talk to your child about the importance of wearing their mask properly over their mouth and nose
4. ask your child to refrain from hugging or touching others while on campus
If your child is sick, please keep them home. If your child is exposed to or positive for COVID-19, please reach out to Irons at contactirons@conroeisd.net so we can provide the appropriate support and make the required notifications.
Due to driver storages, buses are becoming more and more full. If your student is currently a bus rider and you can drop them off in the morning and pick them up by 4:05 pm, please consider doing so.
We will continue to be vigilant on campus and remind students of the expectations for masks, hand washing, touching, or eating outside of the cafeteria. It is our job to protect our school and keep Irons open.
