5/6 Building at Georgetown Updates
1-20-23
Letter from Mrs. McClure
Hello Future 56G Families and Students,
I hope you all have had a wonderful start to the New Year. Since we have returned, the wheels have been moving with many things in regard to the 5/6 building. Over the past two weeks, our current fifth grade students were given a taste of what it would look, feel, and SOUND like to take Band, Choir, Orchestra, or Creative Arts. The students really enjoyed trying out the instruments and singing nonsensical songs with our amazing music team! I also enjoyed meeting many of you that were able to come out to the Music Parent meetings. If your child decided upon band/orchestra, and you were unable to come to the parent meetings, please check out the information below to rent/purchase an instrument.
Starting on Monday, a middle school counselor and I will be traveling to Alward, Bauer, Georgetown, and Park to schedule incoming sixth grade students for their electives. Please make sure that your child's pink course selection sheet is turned in to their teacher by Monday if they haven't already done so.
Over the next few weeks, I will be attending PTC meetings at Alward, Bauer, and Park to share what 5/6 life will look like for incoming fifth and sixth grade students. Last week, I had the privilege of speaking with the Georgetown families at their PTC meeting. It was so nice to meet so many new people, but also see some familiar faces and share exciting updates with them about the 5/6 building. Linked below, you will find the presentation that I went through with these families and will go over at the upcoming PTC meetings. In this presentation, you will also find a Frequently Asked 5/6 Questions document based on questions that have been emailed to eagles@hpseagles.net. I will continue to update this document as more details are finalized with the 5/6 building!
Finally, I will be scheduling a time to go into all Northside fourth grade classrooms during the month of February to discuss what a typical day will look like for them as a fifth grade student. During this conversation, I will also take them on a virtual tour of the building and answer as many questions as possible.
Things are really starting to pick up as we prepare for this fall and the opening of the 5/6 building! It has been so fun to see and hear all of the excitement that the students have about going to the new school. Their questions definitely keep me on my toes, but I love getting feedback and ideas from them about what we can do to make this building a special place for all of our fifth and sixth grade students! Once again, thank you for your partnership, and I look forward to meeting all of you over the next few months as we get closer to the start of the 23-24 school year.
In partnership,
Melanie
Renting/Purchasing an Instrument
How do I get an instrument for band?
If you have a financial need, please contact a director!
Instruments can be purchased outright from a reputable source (Facebook Marketplace, local music store, etc.) but we encourage you to contact your director!
Family instruments are acceptable! We encourage you to have it looked over by a director or music store before the beginning of the year.
Our highest suggestion is the Meyer Music Rent-to-Own Program.
Additional information from Meyer Music can be found HERE.

Guarneri House, a local company right here in Hudsonville, is our recommendation. You may call Guarneri House to rent your instrument at 616-451-4960 or rent online at https://www.guarnerihouse.com/
If you don't know your size, please rent a 3/4 instrument. Instruments need to be reserved by May 1.
Scheduling Electives for In-coming Sixth Grade Students
Mrs. McClure and a current middle school counselor will return to the Alward, Bauer, Georgetown and Park fifth grade classrooms the week of January 23rd to assist students with electronically scheduling their elective requests into PowerSchool.
