WDA @ DePauw
Hammond's Next Generation Ministry
Greetings from Greencastle
Thank you so much for your prayers. We are seeing God open doors for ministry opportunities as a result! We had over 30 DePauw students sign up for Young Life Leadership at the student activites fair. Of those students, around 20 of them came to our Hang Out Night to see what we are all about. Many of those students have been coming to our Leasdership Lunches and to our Bible study called "Veritas" ( Latin for "Truth").
Update on YL Club
In our last prayerletter we asked people to pray that the Lord would help us gather high school students and that our college leaders would depend on God, no matter what the outcome of the event, large or small. We have seen God working in our leader's hearts. Before our Kickoff Club one of our leaders mentioned that we shouldn't keep having Club if we have less than 10 high school students come. Although we only had 5 students come to the Kickoff, later that same student was so excited about the way that Club went that he raved about how we need to continue building into and discipling those 5 students! I think he is catching a vision for discipleship! We are praying that those 5 high school students continue to grow in their desire to know God and we are still praying for God to bring more high school students to Club and ultimately to Himself.
Praises! God is opening doors for our YL Leaders to meet and serve more high school students. Our YL Leaders are helping lead FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) in two of our local schools. The teachers who sponsor FCA have been excited to have help from our college leaders. Our leaders have been sharing their testimonies, leading devotions, and helping with games and activities. We are praying that a third local school will want our help as well.
An Oasis
Every Wednesday evening in Reese Hall we have a Bible study called "Veritas". We decided to name it "Veritas" (Truth) because that is what students need in a culture that tells them that there is no truth; that everything is relative. We are doing a video series by Pastor Tommy Nelson studying The Song of Solomon. If you know anything about the Song of Solomon, it's pretty steamy stuff! We are looking at love, sex, marriage and romance from God's perspective. It's eye opening for some of the students! One of our freshman students thanked us for having the Bible study. She called the Bible study, "an oasis" that refreshed her soul in the middle of a desert! She is so right! Jesus said, "Whoever drinks the water that I give him will never thirst, Indeed the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life" (John 4:14). Please pray with us that God will continue to bring students to Veritas and they will continue to be refreshed by God's Word.
