CV's Do's and Don'ts

  • Sweet-spot - the upper-middle of the first page is where the reader's eye naturally falls

  • Employers check what you say - don't lie

  • Never send a photo unless asked

  • Tailor your CV to the role advertised

  • Mention key skills that will help you to stand out from the crowd.

  • Use examples of problem-solving, responsibility and team work

  • Send accompanying covering letter or email

  • References should be real, from someone who has employed you in the past and can vouch for your skills and experience.

  • 90% of CVs have errors. Double-check facts and spelling. Explain gaps in employment history.

  • Have at least 5 people proof-read your CV - Listen to their feedback and suggestions
