Loading Speed of a Website; A Crucial Aspect
We may have come across several websites in our day to day life. However, not all of them must have given us a pleasant surfing experience. As a user, whenever a website URL is typed the response time to fetch the data is very important. Websites having long loading time to pull up the index page, often results under a negative impression among the users.
Few points we can keep it handy during the development phase of a website, which shall result in a prompt and subtle response of the site can be listed as under;
Banner Specifications
For a Dynamic Website, an attractive and a high resolution banner is a must, but an equal importance must be given, upon the dimensions and the size of the file (image) being used. A less sized image shall load faster as compared to a heavy sized file. Also with the various templates available, there are options of video visual banners. But here one has to be very careful about the bandwidth and the size the video captures in the database. If the banners are bulky, it shall affect adversely in the loading time of the page making it lethargic, giving a delayed response.
Category/Sub Category/Child Category Allocations
While developing a website, the primary task is of analyzing the structure of the site. The various categories the website would contain and the no. of products to be listed. Accordingly a rough overview must be drafted, wherein category, subcategory and child category has to be allotted and drafted. Having a segregated allocation is very helpful in cases of a huge product listing based websites. The common examples we see around is of an Ecommerce Site. This prevents the site to get exhausted in the process of loading up and hence reduces the loading speed.
Product/Service Image Sizes
If a website deals with a service or a product industry, then there are bound to be multiple products and services listed as well. In this scenario, a special emphasis has to be given to the images being uploaded on this section. Every image that gets uploaded on the site contributes to the size of the database. Hence, it is totally upon us, as to how we wish to manage the size and bandwidth of the page. The images should be strictly compressed in order to meet the required specifications.
Video/Gallery Uploads
Video uploads has now become a common feature in majority of the sites we discover around. It varies according to different sections such as gallery, testimonial, events, announcements, product launches etc. However we need to be very careful about the size and bandwidth our video takes in the database. Therefore, a prominent trend has been stressing on the You Tube medium of playing videos. Here we just need to use the embedded links in the database, and the entire Video gets fetched from the You tube. Hence we could save both on database used for streaming as well as the loading speed of the website.
However, there can be many other points listed for effectively reducing the loading speed of a website, but by following the above listed methods we can definitely kick start our efforts. There are huge advantages associated with the less loading speed of any website. One major advantage is that it helps tremendously in the SEO and digital ranking of the site.
