Puma Periodical

September 2014

You have survived!

Congratulations on surviving the first few weeks of middle school! We are really starting to get into the swing of things here on the Puma team, and we are excited to start learning. This month we will be jumping into our first unit, Who Am I? See below for some more details.

Remember Claws = 1st and 5th & Paws = 2nd and 3rd period!

Claws Students are on the Prowl!

This month Claws students will be accepting a challenge. Their unit challenge is as follows: Create a Virtual Backpack for Success!

We will be exploring the components of what success is, how we define it, and how to obtain it. We have already been discussing the concept of GRIT and GROWTH MIND SET. Be sure to check out the video that are a part of the Soul Pancake Success Series.

As we move into this unit, students will be exploring their challenge through many different mediums. Photo essays, guest speakers, personal narratives, and Socratic Seminars...just to name a few.

Thank you for your continued support! Go Pumas!

Paws Students are Discovering School (and loving it!)

Our Paws students are diving into unit 1 by taking on the perspective of YOU, their parents. They have already written something called a RAFT Letter where they wrote about themselves as students through your eyes. We have heard some great feedback on their strengths and goals, as well as their likes and dislikes. Homework was a big dislike! :)

As the unit continues, we will be taking them on a vocabulary scavenger hunt, exploring Time for Kids nonfiction, and even using our bodies to explain plot, theme, and point of view. It's going to be a wild ride, so buckle up and hold on!

For more information about these and other activities, please be sure to check out mpmscoyne.weebly.com

Thank you!
