From the Principal
Happy Friday Hawkins Families!
Well, this is our last newsletter of the year! Our 2018-19 school year has come to an end...almost. As the students tell me, "four-and-a-half more days Mrs. Kiehler." This has been a tremendous year of growth for our Hawkins Leaders and as always, I am so proud. I would like to thank every one of you for being the support system for your child. It really does take a village and all of you are part of our village. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Friday, June 7th is a 1/2 day for our students and dismissal is at 12:35pm.
I know the students are super excited about summer break so they can take a "break" from school and "sharpen their saws" (Habit 7). We are all excited to do that too! However, there is one crucial thing that no student should take a break from and that is reading. Reading is the single MOST important predictor of child success and the more a child reads, the more likely they will be successful as they progress through school. It is imperative that you set time aside everyday and read with your child or to your child.
The Brighton District Library has an incredible summer reading program and it kicks off on Sunday, June 9th. Information is below:
1:00 PM - 4:00 PM6/9/2019
Join us for our Summer Reading Kick-off event with juggler and stilt walk, Jason Kollum, Jumpin' ALSTARS jump rope team, free ice cream, petting farm, and giant bubble making with the Bubble Man. Register for our Universe of Stories Summer Reading Program and pick up your free materials. Drop-in.
Schedule of Events:

Well, that is a wrap for the year! Have a fantastic summer and I am looking forward to seeing you all next year!

News From the Nurse
It is that time of the year when kids are outside a lot more and so are ticks! Please be sure to check your children thoroughly for ticks on their clothing and skin after playing outdoors. Common places for ticks to nestle include: under the arms, in and around the ears, inside the belly button, back of the knees, in and around hair, between the legs and around the waist. If a tick is found, remove it as soon as possible. For detailed information about tick removal, see www.cdc.gov/ticks/removing_a_tick.html. If your child develops a rash or a fever within several weeks of being bit by a tick, seek medical attention.
