Sandwich High School News
April 2021
Notes From the Principal
All in-person students will be returning to SHS full-time on April 5. I have attached a link with the document I sent out last week in regards to this change. The link below is labeled "Returning to SHS April 5." Some of the highlights include:
- Desks have been added to rooms while maintaining a 3-foot distance between.
- Furniture has been removed from rooms.
- Computer lab has been retrofitted to house classes with large enrollments to maintain 3-foot distance.
- We will continue the paper self-certification, but will transition to an online app starting April 15.
- We added a staff member to work with some students in a credit recovery class.
- Use of the small gym to provide lunch to the larger population.
- Bagged breakfasts and lunches will be provided to all students.
Please note that due to supervision constraints, we are asking that students be dropped off after 7:45 am each day.
Masks will continue to be our number-one mitigation strategy. If a student refuses to comply with this expectation, they will be removed from class and sent home.
Homecoming: We will have a modified Homecoming on April 23 with Morris as our gridiron competitor for the night. Student Council will be planning a spirit dress up week for April 19-23. More details to come.
As some of you may have heard, I accepted a new position at Sandwich CUSD #430. After eight years at Sandwich High School and 23 years in the district, I will be moving to central office as Assistant Superintendent. My new position begins on July 1, 2021. I have enjoyed working with my students and families and will continue to be a part of their education going forward.
2021-2022 SHS Principal
Quick Notes
Custodians: We are currently looking to hire two part-time custodians. Each employee would work 4-5 hours per day. These would be day positions helping in the cafeterias, gyms, hallways, etc. Interested parties can contact Tom Sodaro at Sandwich High School (815-786-2157).
Chromebooks: Students will be returning the Chromebook that was checked out at the end of last school year. Recently, students should have received an email from "Sandwich High School Library" asking them to verify their Chromebook barcode. Please check the email and respond to Mrs. Kurtz if needed.
