Early Life
Roald Dahl was born on September 13, 1916 in Llandoff, Wales. When he was 2 his family moved to Radyr. In 1920 Roald's sister, Astri died, in the same year his father died. This made Roald become very sad. Roald moved back to Llandoff and goes to a new school. Roald finished school at the age of 18. He then worked for shell oil company for four years. After working there in 1939 he joins the Royal air force. Because of a plane crash that happens Roald becomes injured and is moved back to Washington, D.C. where he meets author C.S. Forrester, who encouraged him to start writing. His first short story was published in 1946.
Later Life
In 1951 he meets his future wife, Patricia Neal. They end up getting married in 1954 on July 2nd. After the two are married there first daughter Olivia is born in 1955. In 1957 there 2nd daughter Teresa is born. There third child Theo was born in 1960. A year after there son is born he published his first famous book "James and the giant peach". Three years later he published "Charlie and the chocolate factory" which was a great success and was made into a movie. He continued to write and more of his stories were turned into film. In 1980 some of his best known children's books were published. Roald Dahl died on November 23,1990 at age 70. Even though he is gone his stories are still popular today.
