Basic Firearm Safety Class | January 12, 19 & 26, 3:30 p.m., 4-H Building | Ages 8-11
The Homestead 4-H Shooting Sports Club is hosting a series of classes geared at teaching youth basic firearm safety skills. In order to attend, youth must be 4-H ages 8-11 (as of December 31). Attendance required at each session with an adult. Instructors are 4-H and NRA Certified. Daisy 499 BB gun will be used; no personal firearms. Fee: $20.00. To register, contact Mike Jochum, 402-984-1988. Might be just the best learning situation for all the kids who got a Daisy Red Rider for Christmas!

Lindsey is the Office Manager at Nebraska Extension in Gage County, where she assists 4-H families with enrollment, fair book, and questions regarding 4-H and Livestock.
2020 Gage County Fair & Expo | July 22-26
We are Nebraska Strong… we celebrate this spirit, our people, our county and state at the 2020 Gage County Fair: “NEBRASKA STRONG AT THE GAGE COUNTY FAIR”. Watch for theme exhibits in February. Let us know if you have any ideas.
We are looking for trophy/awards sponsors, let us know if you would like to join in as we award 4-H and FFA youth for their achievements at the Gage County Fair.
The Fairbook is under construction; let us know of your ideas for additions or changes for 2020. Excitement is building as we work on exhibits, entertainment, projects and all the components of the fair showcasing 4-H members, families and clubs.

Used incubators with turning trays - Hova-Bator Electronic (2), Farm Innovators Pro Series (1), Little Giant Still Air (2). Used in 4-H Embryology classes. $50.00.

Gage County 4-H Online Enrollment
$12 dues must be paid online at conclusion of enrollment process. NEW in 2020, all 4-H members will be covered by Annual Accident Insurance through American Income Life. **No enrollment fee for Clover Kids. See below for special enrollment instructions for Clover Kids.
Projects will continue to be cleared from 4HOnline annually. Project history per members can be found under Member Reports in your family account. Call the Extension Office if you have questions.
Gage County 4-H Clover Kids
Clover Kids have special opportunities to participate during the Gage County Fair including taking projects and exhibiting Clover Kids static exhibits. To be eligible to participate, Clover Kids need to enroll through our 4HOnline system. Please follow these special Clover Kid enrollment instructions.
2020 State Competition | National 4-H Congress
Exciting news for 2020 National 4-H Congress – All youth, ages 15-19 (January 1), are eligible to compete to be a Nebraska delegate for National 4-H Congress. Fill out the Nebraska 4-H Achievement Application – About Me, My Experiences, and Representing Nebraska. Website: https://unl.edu/achievement-applicaiton. Please submit a copy (paper or email) to our Extension Office. Submit electronically to the State 4-H Office: 4HAchieves@unl.edu. Label file with the applicant’s last name, first name, and county. DEADLINE: JANUARY 15! Good luck to all of you! Let’s get some delegates to this once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Enroll as a New Volunteer/Adult
REQUIRED - Volunteer Screening Process
The Nebraska Extension 4-H Volunteer application process includes volunteer screening. All volunteers (teens and adults) and staff who work directly with youth are required to complete the volunteer screening every five years. Be assured the volunteer screening process is confidential. A $5.00 fee will be required during the screening. Gage County 4-H volunteers who complete the screening will receive a free meal voucher to Runza. Thank you Runza!

Winter Face-to-Face YQCA Training Schedule
Winter YQCA Face to Face Training Schedule
- Thursday, February 13 | 1:30 pm | Tri-County Schools
Face-to-Face training participants are REQUIRED TO PRE-REGISTER ONLINE and pay $3.00 fee. Once you have completed the training you will log back in to your YQCA account and retrieve your certificate to turn into the Extension Office by June 15.
Online YQCA training is available for $12.00 per youth. Please make special note to your 4-H age (as of Jan. 1, 2020) when selecting a course to complete. Use your 4-HOnline username and password to login to YQCA account.

Horse Advancement Levels
Winter months are a great time to work on and achieve Horse Advancement Levels. Information and study materials are found in the Horse Project Member Manual and Advancement Level Manual at the Extension Office. Cattlemen's Classic Judging Contest | February 15, Buffalo County Fairgrounds
There are three age divisions: Seniors (16-18), Intermediate (12-15), and Junior (8-11). For complete contest rules and registration visit https://go.unl.edu/qmej
The judging contest will begin with check-in at 7:00-7:30 a.m. and conclude with an awards banquet at 7:00 p.m. The top senior individual will receive a $1,000 UNL Animal Science Scholarship.
