With only a few weeks left in the school year, there are lots of exciting activities as teaching and learning continue. As we head into the weekend, I want to wish you a very Happy Mother's Day. Superintendent Survey
The Gwinnett County Board of Education is moving forward in its search to identify the school district's next superintendent. An essential part of the search process is obtaining feedback from stakeholders in the community. As a member of our school community, we hope you will participate in the online survey to share your thoughts on the qualities you would like to see in the next superintendent. The survey is open through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, May 16, and is available in English, Spanish, Korean, Chinese, and Vietnamese.

You are an important partner with your child’s teacher, whether your child is learning at home or at school. To help you support your child’s learning, GCPS is launching a new initiative called AKS at Home. With this project, families will learn ways to help their child practice skills they are learning in class as part of the district’s Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum. Parents have access to a library of recorded sessions and tip-sheets. Find more information on the AKS at Home web page.
We are so proud to announce that WMES has been designated as a No Place for Hate School for the second year in a row by the Anti-Defamation League! Anti-Defamation League (ADL) Education is inspiring a generation to challenge bias in themselves, others and society in order to create more inclusive learning communities.
ADL’s No Place for Hate® initiative is a school climate improvement framework that provides PreK–12 schools with an organizing framework for combating bias, bullying and hatred, leading to long-term solutions for creating and maintaining a positive and equitable climate.
No Place for Hate® schools receive their designation in the following ways:
• Building inclusive and safe communities in which respect and equity are the goals and where all students can thrive.
• Empowering students, faculty, administration and family members to take a stand against bias and bullying by incorporating new and existing programs under one powerful message.
• Sending a clear, unified message that all students have a place where they belong.
Character Word of the Month: Perseverance
The character trait for the month of May is Perseverance. This is a great word to focus on as we finish out the year! Perseverance means trying your best, even when things are hard and even when you are tired. Teachers will choose one student in their class that exhibited perseverance the most for the month of May to represent their class as the Cub of the Month. Let’s all work to persevere as we finish out a great year!
Overdue Media Center Books
Student media accounts must be clear of outstanding books and fines before the end of the school year. We have many digital and in-person students with overdue and/or damaged books. Per GCPS policy, fines are charged for lost and damaged media center books.
Overdue notice reports will be emailed to parents on a weekly basis. If you receive an overdue notice, please make every effort to locate the overdue books and return the books to the school. Digital students can return overdue books to the front lobby or place the books in the book crate outside of the front doors. If you have lost a book, the fine can be paid with cash, check, or through MyPaymentsPlus. Should a book be found after payment is made, a refund request will be promptly generated.
Please contact Jennifer.Alden@gcpsk12.org or refer to the media center circulation procedures on the media center page of the school website if you have any questions. Thank you for your support.
