Kinder Review

April 22, 2016

Literacy Corner

This week we reviewed our sight words through playing the speed game. Study has shown that if a students can call a sight word in 4 sec. the know the word. If they don't know the word, they are still trying to figure it out. Please continue to study the words with your child at home. We also learned about the Earth, and what we can do to save it. The students created posters to tell everyone around school how they can help keep our Earth clean. The students did a good job on this activity. We read books related to the story and worked on characters, setting, and recalling what is in a story. Please work with your child on putting a story in sequential order. We often times tell the story in great detail, but we jump all over place. We want the students to be able to retell a story from beginning to end, sighting the important information at the beginning, in the middle and at the end. We will continue to work on this in class.

Next week we are learning about plants on our wonderful earth. We will continue to read stories and write, working on our sounding out and blending of sounds skills.

Math Lab

This week we worked on complements of 10, nonstandard measurement, adding and subtracting. We completed a variety of stations where we worked on the skills in small groups. The students are doing well in math. Please continue to work with them on counting skills and the skills worked on this week.

Next week we will continue to review the many skills learned/

Parental FYI

Parents, we have six weeks left of school and every day counts. Instructional time is very important, and when the teacher in relaying information to the class, no one should talk. It can be very distracting Spring fever is here and all the students can think of now is summer vacation. Please remind your child and help them to follow the expectations for our school and classroom.

Please remember to turn in your child's spring pictures. They are needed to us ASAP. If you would like to purchase any of the pictures in the package, please keep them and send the money and unwanted pictures back to school in the original packaging. Thank you!

If you have not already done so, please return your child's Patterson Farm Permission Slip. and money by Wednesday, April 27th. We have to have our lunch count in, and need to know if your child will be counted in the number. Thank you!

Please remember that next Friday, April 29...all Kindergarteners are not to report to school. We will have our DIAL testing for the Kindergarteners entering next year. Again, school is out for all kindergarteners, Friday, April 29th.

Please view the video below. It gives you some great information about Camp Invention which will be held at Rocky River this summer. This camp allows your child to work with other students to explore their creative side and have fun in the process. This camp allows your child to continue to work on their reading, math and science skills without stress. It is a great camp to be involved in. I have worked the camp for the past two years and will be there again this year.
