STILLSON SPIRIT
November 2018 Newsletter
Well, the first two months of school have flown by! Our fast-pace doesn’t seem to slow down as November brings more exciting times for us. On Saturday, Nov. 3, PTO will have their Craft Expo at Stillson. Come out and enjoy time shopping at all the different vendors. On Friday, November 16, we will have our first 3 Be Celebration as well as a ribbon-cutting ceremony for our new RCU School Sense program. We are looking forward to celebrating the students’ hard work in following our 3 Be expectations.
Our parent-teacher conferences were very well attended. We had a 98% turn out. This definitely shows all of us the importance and value that you put in your child’s education and we thank you for that. It is certainly a great night to review progress and have any questions answered. We will continue to let you know how well your child is learning by giving you regular feedback as indicated by you on September 4th through conferences, as well as progress reports, notes home, semester report card, and electronic communication. Please do not hesitate to contact us at any time to discuss your child’s social and academic progress.
I hope that you and your family will have time to be together and enjoy each other’s company this Thanksgiving. In our busy lives, it is sometimes hard to slow down and remember our blessings. Thanksgiving is the perfect time to remember and celebrate them. Thank you to the PTO for your unwavering support. Thank you to the parent volunteers for your time and effort.I am thankful for all the staff, students and families that I have met at Stillson. My purpose and goal is to have all students be successful through their actions and academics. I believe that we all are doing this together. So I am also thankful for our combined effort of Stillson families and staff working together with high expectations for our students and challenging them to be their best.
Also thank you for bringing in a non-perishable item and enjoying the Halloween parade with us. The students look forward to this fun time with their classmates, staff, and families
Yours in Stillson success,
Mrs. Carol Wilczek

"Bee" Your Best!
A huge “thank you” to all the Stillson parents for making the 3 Be’s a part of everyday life. You provide Stillson students a deeper understanding of being respectful, responsible, and safe. These are standards that all people live by each and every day; and although we learn them as kids, they are even more impactful to our lives as we grow older. Thank you parents for partnering with us to teach these valuable connections from school to home.
Here are just a few of the amazing examples that were shared with us.
Respectful:
Sharing a snack from soccer with a sibling
Sharing toys with younger cousins
Using please and thank you
Responsible:
Completing homework right away
Took the dog for a walk
Safe:
Always wearing a helmet when biking
Watching a younger brother while mom ran an errand
This year we added a new twist which allowed students the opportunity to find their parents exemplifying 3 Be behaviors also. The following are some great examples that were shared with us.
Opening doors for other people
Helping a neighbor rake their leaves
Volunteering at our church bake sale
We appreciate your participation in our school-wide activity!!

Weather Reminders
Please be sure your child leaves in the morning dressed for the weather conditions. Dressing in layers is always a good idea. Boots, gloves, hats and snow pants should become part of their standard attire. Students will be going outside during recess except when the actual temperature or wind chill is –6 or colder. They will be allowed to play in the snow if dressed properly. It is also important to label your child’s clothing and boots. Recess is an important time for social interaction. Exercise is a critical component for healthy growth and academic success.
All students will be expected to go outside for recess.

Cartridges for Cash
We are collecting empty inkjet and toner cartridges to turn in for cash! We have partnered with a company that will pay us for our empty cartridges and issue a check for their value on a monthly basis.
Most empty inkjet cartridges are worth $1 to $2.50 each, and some laser cartridges are worth up to $8.00! Our “paycheck” could add up fast, so please help by bringing all the cartridges you use!
Here’s how you can help:
· Don’t put empty cartridges in the trash!
· Please bring all empty cartridges to the LMC.
· Bring empty cartridges from home and add to the collection (and our check!)
They will also take our recycled and refurbished cartridges to dispose in a safe and
environmentally friendly way.

Two Hour Delays
Providing safe transportation for our student population is a top priority. Wisconsin weather is notorious for its instant changes and erratic behavior.
The Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District in collaboration with McDonnell Area Catholic Schools and Chippewa Yellow Bus Company will be utilizing a TWO-HOUR DELAY when inclement weather necessitates safer travel time.
By school district policy, inclement weather decisions must be made no later than 6:00 a.m.
We plan to communicate any weather related decisions in the following ways:
-Local TV, Radio, News print
-District website, district social media (Facebook, Twitter)
-Campus messenger notifications, including family email, voicemails, text messages
-District Mobil App alerts
Because of the unique nature of a TWO-HOUR DELAY, the following adjustments to student schedules will be implemented:
Busses would run two hours behind their normal schedule
Buildings would begin sessions two hours behind normal start time
-No breakfast would be served
-School lunch would be at or around the normal time
-AM BB4C would be cancelled
-Head Start would be cancelled for the entire day
As we all know, Wisconsin weather conditions can change rapidly. In the rare event that a
TWO-HOUR DELAY must switch to a FULL DAY, the decision will be made no later than 8:00 a.m.
If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Chad Trowbridge at (715) 726-2417.

On an early dismissal day, please try to avoid calling the school because it is a very hectic time for us to get the students organized for their correct early dismissal ride. Thank you!

Reminder
· First bell is 7:45 AM, 2nd bell is 7:48. If a student comes to school after 7:48 he/she will be counted as tardy.
· Parents are expected to call the office to report any absence by 8:30 AM, or a phone call from the automated phone system will be sent questioning the absence.
· If a child needs to ride a different bus after school, the parent must complete a bus deviation form to be given to the office or bus company.
· We appreciate your support in helping us eliminate interruptions in your child(ren)’s learning experience by not making last minute phone calls regarding changes in end of day transportation.

Important
If your child will not be at school, please call the school office, 715-726-2412, regarding your child’s absence. We appreciate you letting the classroom teacher know your child will be out (via email or note), but also let the office know, as many times classroom teachers will not have time to check their emails prior to school starting.
