May’s Key of Excellence: Balance
Live your best life! Be mindful of self and others while focusing on what’s meaningful and important in your life. Inner happiness and fulfillment come when your mind, body, and emotions are nurtured by the choices you make.
This week's mindset quote:“Balance is not something you find. It’s something you create.” -Jana Kingsford
It's CMS Staff Appreciation Week, so let's tell them how special they are!

Counseling Lesson: Every week, we post a different lesson on our PowerSchool page. This week’s lesson focuses on BALANCE – one of our 8 Key’s of Excellence. Check it out Balance Lesson for May 4-8, 2020!
The Weekly Link:
Dear Parents,
You and your student have just completed week 4! There have been successes and speed bumps. Take a moment to celebrate the successes and congratulate yourself for making it over those speed bumps.
We want to thank all the parents, and families for being a partner in your child's distance learning education. We are all in this together, we are all connected, and we all need each other.
As counselors we have the privilege of connecting with many of you from across the district and across grade levels. One theme we have heard this week is the theme of lasting motivation. A question we often hear is, “how do we help our kids finish strong and stay motivated?”
This week’s one link is to an article on teen motivation from Child Mind Institute. While some of the information is directed towards the high school teen, much of the information is relevant to your middle school child. Here is the link to the one article, but the Child Mind Institute is full of helpful articles and information, and it is extremely easy to use. We hope you find this week’s one link helpful.
Until next time, we wish you well.

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! ASB wants to thank every one of you who inspire curiosity and a passion for lifelong learning. You are incredible at boosting confidence through your motivation and instruction. You serve as a mediator, a supportive listener, and an all-around problem solver, and now you’re doing it all remotely. Please don’t forget how appreciated you are and how you touch the lives of countless students every single day. THANK YOU!
Check out the CMS Tritons PowerSchool page! We have new activities this week including our new Triton’s Cookbook where you can share your recipes! We also have a new Art Share Out for us to express ourselves with poems and paintings!
Sincerely,

CHS Individual Daily Schedule Preference Response Needed:
If you have already completed this task, there is no further action required.
It has been decided that CHS will remain a 6 period bell schedule for the 2020-2021 school year with any changes in schedule format not taking place until the following year. With this decision, E Period classes (starting at 7:00 am daily) will now be an option. In order to best meet the needs of you and your family, we are asking that ALL students designate their preferred schedule start/stop time so that we can schedule you accordingly to the best of our ability.
In order to access the survey link, you will need to first log into Google from your student's CUSD email log-in or it will not let you proceed. This is the same log-in used for PowerSchool.

Does your child need a break from the computer, but still needs to be engaged in an activity? There you can find fun, engaging activities and challenges. These activities are completely optional; they are not assignments. If your child is excited about their completed product, please have them send a picture to Mrs. Narmore on the CMS iLab page. We'd love to see what their creative minds can come up with!

Community Mother’s Day Card Drive
In celebration of Mother’s Day 2020, The Coronado Recreation Department is asking Coronado school children to hand make a Mother’s Day Card this May for a mom or grandmother who is all alone. These cards will be delivered or mailed to someone who lives alone or lives or works in a nursing home, assisted living facility or hospital.
When making the card, be creative; be thoughtful; be heartfelt. Write a sentiment inside that is appropriate for a mom, mother-to-be, grandmother, aunt, friend’s mom, mother-in-law or “someone who is like a mother.”
This act of kindness will recognize moms who children may not be around to share their love. Plus, all of us can use an extra hug right now! This is a simple way to make a big difference with an incredible impact! Encourage your friend’s and neighbor’s children to make a card too even if they are preschoolers or teens.
Send your handmade card in an unsealed envelope, that you put in a larger envelope. Mail to:
City of Coronado
Recreation Department
1845 Strand Way
Coronado, CA 92118
Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 10, 2020 so send your card today.
Any questions, contact the Coronado Call Center at (619) 522-6380.

CUSD GRAB-AND-GO MEAL SERVICE
Grab-and-Go Meal Service at Village Elementary and Silver Strand
When: Every Monday
Location: Multi-Purpose Rooms at VES (H Street) and Silver Strand Elementary
Distribution Time: 11:00AM - 1:00PM (while supplies last)
Families with children 18 and under will be able to pick up free breakfast and lunch meals via curb-side pick-up. Students who are receiving meals are encouraged to be physically present at the time of pick-up. Additionally, adults may pick up meals for students not present by printing and submitting this form at the time of pick-up. All meals will be distributed curb-side to decrease the risk of exposure. Only those in cars will be served meals during this pick-up time, no walk ups or bicycles allowed in order to maintain social distancing. If you are unable to pick-up meals by car or during the scheduled distribution time, please email Charity.Campbell@coronadousd.net on or before Friday, April 10 at noon and we will schedule an alternative window to pick-up a meal.
While the program was designed to serve the neediest families in our community, children are not required to be students of Coronado Unified School District. On April 6, the first day of meal distribution, we served 5 breakfast meals and 5 lunch meals to 630 children, 6300 meals in total. With such an overwhelming response, we will be preparing even more meals to accommodate our school community. This is free for all children, regardless of meal status - please spread the word!
Technology and Support
Chromebooks and Tech Support: The CUSD IT Department will have office hours on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10-am- 12 pm. Students without access to a device should fill out the CUSD Chromebook Device Request
Should you need to pick up a device or meet with a member of IT, you will need to go to the District Office at 201 6th Street. Parents are to enter the parking lot and walk to the rear frosted glass door to checkout a Chromebook. (Signs will be posted) Although the door will remain open, we ask that no one enters the office.
Support: If you and/or your child is struggling to meet expectations outlined by staff, or you are interested in sharing feedback on Distance Learning, please go to information@coronadousd.net for administrative, counseling, or technological support.
