Surviving Freshman Year
Tips and Tricks 101
The Series Continues
Hello everyone! My name is Jillian Hellman, and as of last year, I was a ninth grade student in Mrs. Allen's English 9 class. Now, many people in the eighth grade think the ninth grade is going to be a crazy difficult grade. Trust me, IT'S NOT! Especially in Mrs. Allen's class, she makes the class run smoothly and easy to understand. Luckily, she is someone who is patient. Make sure to do work as soon as you get it. Don't worry, you'll have an awesome freshman year!
What will we be reading throughout the year?
Throughout the class, we will be reading many books and poems. Luckily, Mrs. Allen makes this super fun! Some of the things you will be reading are:
- A variety of short stories
- The Hunger Games
- Romeo and Juliet
- Monster
- The Odyssey
- A variety of poetry
My Favorite Parts About The Class
Although I loved every part about my Freshman year, I had some specific favorites. I loved reading Romeo and Juliet and The Hunger Games. We read it at a good pace and we read it in many different ways. Sometimes, Mrs. Allen would read aloud, other times we would popcorn read. I especially loved it when we watched the movies. I definitely suggest that you pay attention because it can be confusing. Many people think Romeo and Juliet will be boring but trust me, it is a bundle of fun!
Things I Almost Detested
My least favorite part of the course this year was reading The Odyssey. Many people will disagree with me and say it was so much fun to read. I found it very confusing. There had to be at least 50 different characters in each story, and it was too much. Some of the stories I really did like, but I couldn't remember the characters. I hope you guys like it as much as I do!
