May is an exciting time at Goodness Grows with all the planting, new life, and the start of the market/craft show season. But, May is also a bit sad as well as it means the end of our time with our classroom friends. This year we were lucky to have four different schools come here each week to work with us. We want to say a big thank you to all of the students, teachers, and staff from Crestview, Leetonia, Mohawk, and Salem High Schools. We appreciate all your hard work, your interest in Goodness Grows, and all the laughter and joy you bring with you at each visit. We wish you a wonderful summer and look forward to your return in the fall!
CSA Deadline Almost Here!
We are so excited about this year's CSA program! Planting has been going on since March and we are watching things grow. We still have plenty more planting to accomplish, though. Hopefully the rainy weather will move out and we will get to enjoy some days of planting in the sunshine. This coming Monday, May 27th, is the last day to reserve your subscription to get a wide variety of fresh, naturally raised produce Thursdays weekly for 18 weeks, from early June to mid-October. A weekly share is now $360, which equals $20 per week. A bi-weekly share, from mid-June to mid-October, is $200, which equals $22.22 per week. Refer a friend who purchases a subscription, get $20 back!
Our crew has been working on a huge project this spring up in our warehouse, preparing for the upcoming renovation of the building. They have been busy tearing down loft structures, sorting items, and scrapping metal. These are definitely tasks requiring muscles and an excellent work ethic...which all our folks certainly possess. Some of our school groups also pitched in on this project, for which we are grateful. One of the teachers happily left with some old chairs that she will repaint and give new life to, instead of sending them to the landfill. We love being able to "Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle!"

It is the time of year when we need more hands to accomplish all the work at Goodness Grows. Between jam making, planting, farming chores, inside chores, and more, there is a ton to do here! (Volunteers always welcome!!!) Our first summer employee started this week. We are thrilled to welcome back a long-time Goodness Grows worker, Trevor Wilson! It is always a joy to have Trevor on our team. Our crew sure was all smiles when Trevor walked back in the door!
We were blessed to have a week in May with a very special volunteer, Jacquie Cammarata! She came to us all the way from Marquette, Michigan. Jacquie's father is the pastor of a church that has been here for Mission Trips. She is also the niece of former GG board member, Jean Dougherty. We were just tickled pink to have her with us as an incredibly helpful volunteer. She jumped right in to any task we had. From tye-dyeing shirts for a fundraiser at Diletto's Winery to hauling junk in the warehouse, she did it all with a smile. Thanks, Jacquie, for being so giving of your time and energy!
(If you would like to volunteer like Jacquie, just let us know. We would love to have you join us whenever you can! We pay in smiles, gratitude, and sometimes food!)
