Dear Silver Spring International Families,
There is much information to share with you this week. Please check out the information below and give us a call if you have any questions.
Have a GREAT weekend! 🐾
SY23 Parent Teacher Conferences @ SSIMS
Instead of hosting traditional conferences for all parents on the MCPS designated November dates, this year we are prioritizing traditional parent conference time for students demonstrating significant need in one or more academic areas.Teachers, counselors and/or administrators will reach out to specific parents where there are concerns to schedule conferences.
We also encourage parents to reach out to specific teachers, counselors, or administrators to coordinate meetings to support your child's needs. This can be done at any time of the school year including this month (November), and during the traditional Parent Teacher Conferences days.
Please reach out to the grade level team members listed below if you have an urgent need to meet with one or more of your child's teachers. We look forward to continued partnership with you to help your child succeed in school.

Meet Our New Social Worker: Ms. El-Kahina Hunt!
I am a fairly new School Social Worker to MCPS. I started in August of this year and delighted to have been assigned to SSIMS from (Central office) The Office of Well-Being, Learning and Achievement.
I am originally from Syracuse NY (Snow country) and then attended Buffalo State College for my undergraduate degree in Buffalo NY. I, then attended Howard University ( #1 HBCU) to get away and begin my career. I obtained a MSW (Master’s in Social Work)
I am a seasoned Social Worker with a diverse background of experience. I have over 10 years of experience in working in public school systems to include DCPS and PG County. During my tenure at DCPS, I had an opportunity to work with middle school aged children for 4 years. I then ventured out and began to work with adult populations in the areas of Corrections, Forensic Mental Health, and Social Service Coordination as it relates to housing stability and Leadership.
Some of my personal interests, is just exploring new places, museums, new movies places to eat or new shops, sports related activities and gardening. I really enjoy attending my son’s sports games and just watching him develop into the young man he will be soon!
I look for ward to working with the SSIMS school community this year!
If you have any ideas for Social-Emotional groups or self- care clubs or any general questions, please email me EL-Kahina_Hunt@mcpsmd.org
Meet Our New Community Engagement Officer (CEO)
Officer Mallory Amaya is the new Community Engagement Officer (CEO) for Blair High School, and by extension, Silver Spring International. She has been in active service with the Montgomery County Police Department since 2016. Officer Amaya loves to play sports and wants to get involved with our cluster and school community. She is excited to start this new position with the Blair cluster and has a plan to visit all cluster schools. She is looking forward to meeting the SSIMS parent community in an upcoming PTSA meeting.
Welcome, Officer Amaya!
Schedule for Week of November 14 - November 18
Community Project
We are thrilled to announce the start of the Community Project! 8th graders have been assigned coaches who they will work with throughout the next six months to develop a community-centered service learning project.
Coaches will reach out to 8th graders in the next two weeks to set up their first coaching session. If your 8th grader does not hear from their coach by November 18, please let our MYP Coordinator know! You can reach her at Molly_P_Kuhn@mcpsmd.org.
Students can see who their coach is on canvas, in StudentView, and by looking at the big poster outside the Media Center!
