Hello Good MCCV Families.
I know we are all winding down this very unique school year and can’t help but wonder what the summer will look like for school. The situation remains fluid with many unknowns. We, as a school district, are exploring many options for school in the new year. As state and local officials ease restrictions and provide further guidelines, our goal is to implement an option that fits from the many that we are currently investigating. As soon as we know specifics for our school and students, we’ll share that. Until then, know that we are making plans and staying flexible to whatever the parameters might be for our schools. As always, if you have questions, please reach out. Until then, be well. We can’t wait to see all of you again.
MCCV 8TH GRADE PROMOTION
6:00pm, Thursday, May 28
A link to the Youtube video will be shared in a special MCCV newsletter on May 28 for any families who would like to join in the celebration.
The middle school team is EXTREMELY excited to celebrate this year's graduating 8th graders. Because we are not able to celebrate in person due to ‘physical distancing,’ we will celebrate through a digital format. We are in the process of composing a video with all of the same elements that we have always had during promotion ceremonies. The plan is to have the video uploaded to Youtube and made 'public' shortly before we plan on watching it as a community at 6:00pm sharp. The 8th grade students will be on a zoom session as well to see each other as we watch the video. Certificates and goodies will be delivered in advance to our graduates.

I cannot thank you enough for welcoming me into your driveways to visit with your students. As an extreme extrovert, who loves these students beyond measure, the SIP situation has been extremely tough for me. Seeing your kids’ faces in person has motivated and driven me from the start of distance learning. Your gifts, generosity, conversation, chalk art, and general interaction have LITERALLY kept me going over the last several weeks. I know I speak for more than just me when I say, it’s going to be a long summer without them! Please know that the well-being of your students is always my top priority, and working with them from a distance has proven effective, not just for them, but also for ME! As we wind down the school year, I want to remind you that you have done a GREAT job, even though some of you have expressed you feel you have fallen short. Rest assured our teachers are prepared to bring your students up to speed academically when this is all over. Right now we need to focus on the mental health of our students and supporting them through the pandemic. Please know that you being there for your kids is the highest priority — no matter what that looks like in your household. There is no right or wrong way to respond, and I can tell by my interactions (and even the lack thereof) that you’ve all done an amazing job! Pat yourselves on the back! We’re living through history—and at least at MCCV, we’re all writing the chapters together. I’m so proud to be a part of this community! I have a couple of slots open for next week, so shoot me an email at email@example.com if you’d like to snatch one up. Otherwise, have a great summer! I wouldn’t be opposed to a visit or two on my own time as summer drags on—so don’t be afraid to reach out, and just know I’m always here. ♥️
Remember, as I’ve drawn for many of your kids, love can’t be masked, and this too shall pass!

Mary Collins School at Cherry Valley's PTA End of Year Fundraiser
Your PTA generates funds for a variety of much-needed programs and projects, including critical building and campus improvements, social events, and curriculum supplies and enrichment. Supporting your PTA means supporting your teachers in creating incredible learning opportunities every single day. Your PTA donations fund the following, and more:
- Teacher Activity Fund (classroom supplies)
- Community Events (ice cream social, family dance)
- Assemblies and Special Days
- Campus Infrastructure (theater equipment, garden supplies)
- Field Trip and Enrichment Class Scholarships
- iPad Software Programs
- Mentor Reading Program
- Staff Development
Due to COVID-19, we had to cancel this year's Cherry Jubilee Gala. The loss of our Jubilee has left a gaping hole in the PTA's budget. What have we lost? The biggest fundraising event of the year, a magical night of giving for critical school needs. But what have we gained? The chance to pull together as a community right here, online, to support our school. Please click this link below to donate what you can towards our $10,000 goal. Because, the magic of Jubilee isn’t in the balloons or cocktails (well, maybe a little). It’s in the generosity and love we all share for our school. Please help work some magic for Mary Collins School at Cherry Valley!
Coming next: We will be launching an on-line auction in the next week or so, so please watch for another announcement about that.

MASK FUNDRAISER FOR PTA
Hello Cherry Valley Families!
We are a couple moms to students at our amazing school. Amid all the uncertainties we are now facing, we want to do our part to help our families and use our resources and knowledge to create something to help our community out the best way possible. We partnered up with the PTA to create a mask fundraiser to make masks for you and your families! Our eco friendly masks are cotton and washable. They all come with a reversible pleated design and a pocket to add a filter. All masks will be available through the link, where you can pick out your pattern and have the mask made for adult or child. The cost is $10.00 for child's mask and $12.00 for adult's mask. We will be donating $2.00 per mask directly to the school and payments can be made through Venmo or Square. Let’s help our community stay healthy and strong!

Due to Coronavirus (COVID-19), children who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals at school will get extra food benefits. These food benefits are called Pandemic EBT or P-EBT benefits. P-EBT benefits help families in California buy food when schools are closed because of the coronavirus emergency.
Families will get up to $365 per eligible child on their P-EBT card to use on food and groceries.
Families with children who get CalFresh, Medi-Cal or Foster Care benefits do not need to apply. Most will get their P-EBT card in the mail during the month of May. P-EBT cards will begin arriving around May 12, 2020.
Families with children who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals and who do not get their P-EBT card in the mail by about May 22, 2020 must apply online before June 30, 2020. The online application will be available beginning May 22, 2020 at ca.p-ebt.org.
Free Tutoring for MCCV Students
Dear parents and students,
I am a Mentor at the Cherry Valley Elementary School and a retired teacher of English and Music. Some of you are struggling and could use help right now, given the complications of home-schooling. I would like to offer my services, free, to any student in all areas of study except upper-level math and physics/chemistry (sorry about that). I’m particularly strong with writing/grammar, and general ed classes.
Combined twenty-six years of teaching experience from elementary grades to college level.
Credentialed and BA English Lit; MA in Music Composition and Theory (I’m currently a sound design artist).
Former ESL teacher for seven years at Watsonville Adult School.
Many years of private tutoring and group workshops.
Fully vetted through the Mentor Me program.
I love working with students! Perhaps we can figure out a way to connect (perhaps Zoom to start?). When the pandemic stabilizes I would be happy to drive to your home if it’s in the Petaluma area.
Stay calm…we’ll get through this. Please get in touch by email first…I’m quick to respond.
