Lgbt: The Fights For Rights
Where it All Began
Gay rights have a long history. "Rejection of same-sex marriages and relationships began with the growing influence of Christianity in Rome. The Romans' disapproval of Homosexual relationships spread due to rise of western civilization"(“Gay Marriage"). This type of mindset deserves to be left in the ancient world. The mistreatment of gays wouldn’t stand with society forever. The revolution truly began, “in 1970, [when] the gay rights movement was gaining strength” ("Gay and Lesbian Marriage").
LGBT in Countries
"People around the world face violence and inequality- and sometimes torture, even execution- because of who they love, how they look, or who they are"("LGBT Rights"). Around the world, 76 countries restrict gay rights. People do some absurd actions when someone decides to be different. Those who are homophobic or just plain rude find any fault they can to make fun of them. It's not like this everywhere, though.
Many places are against LGBT marriage. 79 countries still ban gay rights. However, in 2015, on June 26, gay marriage was legalized in the United States. This happened because “Homosexuals demanded the right to marry” ("Gay Marriage"). They earned what they fought for. All 50 states can now have gay and lesbian marriage. It didn't come easy though. People have fought many years for their rights, for who they love. Many civil "wars" have been fought. Though, they win. And in the end, love wins. (Stewart)
