Dear PGHS Families,
Congratulations to the Class of 2022!
The focus of our final newsletter is to celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2022. We would also like to thank you for the daily support you provide to your children as well as your partnership with the PGHS staff.
The May Newsletter also has important information regarding our upcoming finals schedule, graduation, wellness resources, recent student activities and our new bell schedule for the 2022-23 school year.
In closing, I want to express from all of us at PGHS, what a pleasure it has been to work with this remarkable group of seniors and their families. The Class of 2022 has accomplished so much to be proud of in spite of various Covid-19 quarantines, distance learning, mask mandates, limited student activities, and personal loss. This outstanding group of students persevered and made the best out of an extremely challenging set of circumstances. The Class of 2022 will be remembered for their leadership characteristized by perserverance and kindness.
Thank you for your ongoing support of PGHS!
We appreciate your partnership as we all continue to work together to provide a learning community where all are safe, supported and encouraged to grow.
In Partnership,
Taigan Keplinger

2021-2022 Multicultural Expo
Pleasant Grove High School proudly presented the annual Multicultural Expo on Friday, April 8. We held two shows during the school day, exclusively for P.G.H.S. students and staff and an evening show dedicated to our families. The evening show included a free cultural buffet hosted by the performing cultural clubs, ranging from various backgrounds and cultures. The Multicultural Expo was significant day for PGHS students, staff and families to come together and celebrate our similarities and appreciate each other’s differences-truly a day to remember!

Do you want to better understand your teen?
Teen behavior can be a bit of a mystery sometimes, but there’s a logical reason behind their behavior. Did you know that the teen brain is not done developing until sometime in a person’s mid to late 20s? The last part of the brain that develops is the frontal lobe. This is the part of the brain involved in decision making, critical thinking, judgment, organization, and empathy. This time of year can be particularly challenging for older teens as they are making important decisions about what college to attend or what their other options are after high school. Parental support and guidance is critical at this time. Even if they seem okay, it’s a good time to check in with them on how they’re feeling. The emotional part of their brain is well developed, while the part that regulates decision making is not. Graduating high school or even finishing a year and moving on can cause a mix of feelings that may be difficult for teens to manage. Watch this video to learn more about the teen brain.

School Accountability Report Cards Available
The current School Accountability Report Card (SARC) is available online at the Elk Grove Unified School District website at https://www.egusd.net/District/Academics/Assessments/School-Accountability-Report-Cards/index.html . Both a long detailed format and a short executive summary are posted for parents to learn more about the schools in our community.
Each school’s SARC summarizes the school's mission, goals, accomplishments, and highlights the school’s unique programs. In addition, state law requires that the SARC contain all of the following: demographic data, school safety and climate for learning information, academic data, school completion rates, class sizes, teacher and staff information, curriculum and instruction descriptions, postsecondary preparation information, fiscal and expenditure data.
The federal law requires that SARCs contain reports concerning the "adequate yearly progress" of students in achieving state academic achievement standards; Title I Program Improvement status; graduation rates at the secondary level; and the extent to which "highly qualified" teachers are teaching core academic subjects.
A hard copy of these reports can be requested by visiting your child’s school office. Additionally, these reports have been translated into Spanish at schools with large populations of families who speak these languages. Any questions regarding the SARCs can be directed to me at 916-686-0230 or by contacting Learning Support Services at 916-686-7712.
Sincerely,
Taigan Keplinger
