It's A Wrap!

This year Catholic Schools' Week was very successful. The students and staff had a lot of fun from popcorn everyday, dancing Thursday, dressing up and dressing down, and shopping at the book fair.

We appreciate all the good news about SFSS you are spreading. We were very fortunate to have 8 new families come to the open house Wednesday and 3 additional inquiries have come in for tours and shadowing.

We will have another open house for all families including interested families on Wednesday, March 1st from 6 pm - 7pm. This open house will be a family Bingo night.

Since we had no school on Friday, February 3rd, we moved the special person's lunch to Monday, February 6th and we will also have blessing of the throats in the morning. The book fair will also be open one last day on Monday.

Report Cards were sent via email today and can also been seen on the family portal.

SFSS on the Road

We are very fortunate to have support from many local parishes.

Join me on the road to share the SFSS spirit with local parishes.

This weekend:

Saturday, February 4th- 4 pm @ St. Michael's in Lyons.

Sunday, February 5th - 10:30 am @ St Michael's in Newark

Saturday, February 11th - 5 pm @ St. Mary's Waterloo

Sunday, February 12th - 8 am @ St. Patrick's Seneca Falls

9:30 am @ St. Mary's Waterloo

11 am @ St. Patrick's Seneca Falls

Students attending these Masses should wear their dress uniform. Parents and students are invited to help me greet at the church doors and speak with perspective families at our information table we will have.

Our school is amazing and the parishioners at these parishes want to hear about us. These visits can encourage new families to join our school family.

Enrollment for 2023-2024 is now open!

Don't forget to complete your enrollment or select will not enroll. I believe we have fixed all the bugs in the system, if not, please let Suzanne Pohorence know.

Current families in preschool to grade 7 have only a few steps to complete.

Here are the steps you need to complete:

1. Log in to your Family Portal Account.

2. Go to Apply/Enroll on the left sidebare.

3. Click Enrollment/Reenrollment. (If you are choosing to not return to SFSS, you will select “do not enroll” and submit.)

4. Review the information rolled over from your prior enrollment forms.

5. Provide any missing information or documents.

6. Elect your payment plan and/or apply for financial aid.

7. Electronically Sign

If you are adding a family member as a new student, repeat the process above, but in stead of Enrollment/Reenrollment, select Application (New Student).

One of the benefits of automatic re-enrollment is families are charged a $10 processing fee instead of the $20 processing fee for new applications. There is still the $100 registration fee per child, $200 maximum per family.

Tuition was increased by $100 to off set some of the increase in operating costs. We are ever so grateful for the Harry J. Touhey bequeath that kept this increase low. If you are planning to use the FACTS Management System for tuition payment, there will be a fee of $20 for annual or semi-annual payments made or $50 for quarterly or monthly payments made.

New families or family members who are not current students will be required to submit an application in FACTS to new enrollment. More information is available on our school's website.

Financial Assistance Opportunities

  1. Many of our families benefit from the Building a Brighter Future Scholarship. If you received it last year, you must reapply. Everyone is encouraged to apply. To learn more please visit https://www.dorschools.org/scholarship.

  2. Currently, families can apply for the Reverend John A. Reddington Scholarship Fund. There is no limit on the number of times a student may apply for a scholarship. Scholarships are not automatically renewed each year. Students must reapply annually.

The Reddington Scholarship Fund is a needs-based fund, but the student must be performing to his/her potential. This past spring the committee overseeing this scholarship had (94) students apply for the scholarship and were able to assist (94) applicants. Scholarships awarded are in the average range of $100.00 to $500.00 per year. The committee will only consider those applications that indicate a family's maximum yearly income of $60K or LESS and require proof of school registration of student attending.

To apply for this scholarship, please visit https://www.geneseevalleytrust.com/Community/2023_Reddington_Scholarship/.

3. Financial aid through FACTS. When you re-enroll, you will be prompted to set up your tuition agreement. When you do this, you will be prompted to apply for financial aid. There is a $40 non-refunded fee for your application.

Family Ambassador Program

Family Ambassador Program - Current families may refer a new family to apply to our school. Referring families and new enrolling families receive up to a $500 tuition credit. To learn how this works, please visit https://www.dorschools.org/ambassador to learn more and to print off the form.

Crusaders Basketball

The Crusaders were at home for a triple header last weekend and it was another round of great basketball.

The day started with 3/4 Coed Team taking on St. John of Rochester. The Crusaders came out of the gate quick and took a 10-6 half time lead. SJR fought back with a 10-0 run to start the 2nd half before SJSS could rally and get on the board. The Crusaders got within one but could not overcome SJR’s defense and dropped their first game of the season 16-15. SFSS were led by Tripp Tapscott with 9 points and 11 rebounds, Carson Baxter with 4 points and 3 rebounds and Matt Prindle with 2 points and 3 rebounds. A hard found battle that the team should be proud of. The Crusaders are 5 – 1 on the season.

The 5/6/7 Girls team were up next against the St. John of Rochester as well. This game was another defensive battle but the girls took the lead early and never gave it up, staying undefeated with a 19-12 win. Francesca Calabrese, Natalie Dorn and Olivia Tapscott led the defensive and rebounding efforts for SFSS and Elizabeth Scibona and Molly Lamson were the top scorers for the Crusaders. The girls are now 7 – 0 for the season.

The 6/7/8 boys finished the day with a big victory over St. Louis of Pittsford. The boys started fast and never looked back coasting to a 40 – 9 victory to go 6 – 2 for the season. A balanced scoring attack for the Crusaders with Nick Dorn leading the effort with 10 points followed by Max Delgado with 8, Dominic Petramale and Thomas Hutteman with 6 each and Roman Nearpass, Caleb Dickson and Jack Validzic added 2 each. A great effort by the entire team.

This weekend’s schedule is (all games 2/4):

3/4 Coed @ St. Lawrence @ 9:00

5/6/7 Girls Home vs Peace of Christ @ 11:00

6/7/8 Boys Home vs Assumption @ 12:15

Come on down to the DeSales gym and cheer on the Crusaders!
