District Issued Device Updates-Optional Insurance
Optional Device Insurance-Don’t Miss Out!
Students in grades 3-12 are eligible to purchase optional device insurance to cover 1:1
devices. Enrollment began on 8/23 and will end on 9/17. With Chromebook coverage as
low as $27/year, click the links below to learn more.

Keep in mind, as stated on page 11 of the Student Device Handbook, parents/guardians
are responsible for the reasonable cost to repair or replace a 1:1 device that has been
broken, lost or stolen. Optional insurance may assist with offsetting these costs should
your student’s 1:1 device becomes broken, lost or stolen.
District Device Updates
Student Device Deployments
Although many students have received district-issued devices, please note that district technicians are still in the process of distributing devices district-wide. We ask for your patience, as we work to serve all students who have requested a device, both new and existing.
In addition, we have received a tremendous number of student help tickets notifying us of various types of damaged and broken devices. Damaged repair costs can be located on page 12 of the Student Device Handbook found on the Technology webpage and can be paid on the PayK12 website. Please note, once we have completed device distributions, we will begin focusing on collecting and repairing devices. For those who have misplaced or have damaged adapters, beginning next week, adapters will be available for purchase at assigned campuses via your office staff and campus technician.
We are experiencing a high volume of calls, help tickets and tech support emails. Thank you for working with us as we make strides to address each one.
------------------------Additional Information------------------------------------------
- Technology has ordered 500 additional Chromebooks to help support the damaged/lost/new student device count, but these have a 2-3 week delivery delay.
- Secondary Grades are initial priority, please have patience with students who do not have a device yet due to deployments and damaged machines.
- Some students with damaged devices have not entered a work order to report the damages, please encourage students to do so. We want to get these out for repair as soon as we are done with deployments.
- I am attaching the email that went out to parents this afternoon.

EMPATHY
What is Empathy?
Empathy is the ability to be aware of, understand, and be sensitive to another person’s feelings. Instead of focusing how these feelings impact ourselves, empathy motivates us to focus on others and respond with care and compassion.
Why focus on Empathy?
- Empathy builds positive classroom culture. Empathy empowers students to learn to understand each other to build trust and safety in the classroom.
- Empathy strengthens community. Empathy helps students strengthen their relationships with classmates, other students and adults at school, and at home.
- Empathy prepares your students to be leaders in their community. The best leaders understand the people they lead and are able to show they care.
Empathy in Action:
- Take a different perspective. When you take a different perspective, you put aside your own feelings and reactions to see the situation through another’s eyes.
- Put aside judgment. Take a pause and rather than express conclusions about a situation based on what you see, step back and consider other things you may still need to know or understand.
- Communicate that you understand. Instead of giving advice, respond with reflective phrases like, “It sounds like you...” or “I hear that you...” to express that you understand and care.
Important COVID-19 and other Communicable Disease Updates
The following ongoing protocols will be adhered to for the safety of students, staff members and families to prevent and mitigate the spread of communicable diseases:
For a COVID-19 positive case that was diagnosed or lab confirmed, the student or staff member will:
- Isolate at home until:
- Ten days have passed since symptoms began or since positive test results
- Fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication
- Improvement in symptoms
- For a suspected COVID-19 case, the student or staff member will be required to exclude themselves for the following symptoms using the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) COVID-19 clinical criteria:
- At least two of the following symptoms: fever (measured or subjective), chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, congestion or runny nose; OR
- At least one of the following symptoms; cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, new loss of taste or smell AND
- No alternative diagnosis is more likely
- Individual would isolate at home 10 days OR
- May provide negative test results OR
- May submit a healthcare professional’s note clearing the individual to return before 10 days have passed
- For more health information, visit https://www.mansfieldisd.org/departments/health-services/communicable-diseases
Reporting and Communication and Response
- Notification letters will be sent to all campus staff, students and parents for a confirmed COVID-19 case on campus.
- Additionally, class-level notification will be sent to the parents/guardians of students who share a class with the COVID-19 positive case.
- Required reporting of COVID-19 test positive individuals will be submitted to DSHS and the local health authority by Health Services staff.
- The district will maintain a COVID-19 Cases Dashboard with the number of active and recovered COVID-19 cases by school.
