Hello Lakeside Parents and Guardians!

As the first 9 weeks comes to a close, Parent/Teacher conferences will be right around the corner. This year conferences will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2019. Conference forms were sent home with students. If you have not already, please choose a convenient time to meet with your child’s teacher and return the form as soon as possible. You will receive a confirmation form indicating our conference time. Please mark your calendar for these important conferences. There will also be no school for students on this day. Warren Township Strategic Planning Survey

MSD of Warren Township will be creating a comprehensive strategic plan based on community input that will ensure all students and staff have the conditions necessary to develop and apply Journey of a Graduate (JoG) skills. Click link to take survey.

Warren Snapchat…

We are excited to provide students with technology to enhance their learning experiences in the MSD of Warren Township. Each student will be assigned a device for classroom use. Students in grades K-2 will be assigned an iPad and students in grades 3 & 4 will be assigned a Chromebook. Devices will be kept at school and charged in a classroom cart. Students are responsible for proper care and use of their device.

Each device is covered by a by a district-sponsored insurance program for damage. This keeps charges for both intentional and accidental damages low. Both purposeful and accidental damage will be charged at a reduced rate.

Repair ~Family Charge

More than 3-The actual cost of repair or $50

How does the district ensure student safety with the use of student devices?

Warren Township employs a variety of methods to manage the student devices including Internet filtering, and application restrictions.

Internet Filtering software collects information about the sites that students access. Whether a use is off task or appropriate depends on the time of day, the student’s schedule, and the teacher’s instructions. If a student attempts to access an inappropriate site, a notification is generated and the filtering software blocks the viewing of that site.

Students are also taught about appropriate use and care for their devices by their classroom teachers. Specific age-appropriate lessons have been created for use with all students.

The school will not be in session on Tuesday, October 1, 2019, due to conferences being held. Report cards for the first nine-week grading period will be given out at conferences. Teachers sent home conference sign up sheets this week. Please return these by Friday, September 13.

Kindergarten Vision Screening

Vision screening will be conducted on all Kindergarten students on Monday, September 30, 2019. If for any reason you do not want your student screened, please send a note to the school nurse by September 27th .

Counselor's Corner

My name is Kristen Mitchell and I am the school counselor here at Lakeside. I was teaching first grade here previously so you may recognize me. My role is to help add to your child's social, emotional, and academic success. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any concerns about your child's development in any of these areas. My email is and my phone number is 532-2880.

Elementary School Counselors provide education, prevention, and intervention activities through school-wide initiatives, classroom lessons, small groups and individual counseling. Counselors assist students in their academic, career and social/emotional development and provide support to students during times of transition or heightened stress. As a resource to staff and parents, counselors assist in identifying children's academic and social/emotional needs. Counselors may also provide referrals for additional community support services.

A typical day for our elementary school counselor might include the following:

  • Classroom lesson on social skills

  • An intervention assisting a small group of third-grade students with organizational skills

  • Collaboration with a grade-level team review of academic and behavioral data

  • Facilitating conflict resolution between students

  • Organizing career exploration activities for teachers to use in the classroom

  • Parent conference to address academic concerns

  • Small group intervention activity in anger management

  • Individual counseling for students dealing with emotions relating to stress or significant life events

CAR RIDERS/DAYCARE Student Drop-off/Pick-up Procedures

We ask that our parents follow these guidelines to ensure that every student has a safe arrival and dismissal:

All students will be required to be dropped off and picked up through the car rider line to maintain safety standards. Parking at the front and East end of the building and walking children to and from the entrances will not be allowed. We want to prevent children and adults walking through the path of cars or buses on the property at any time.

Staff members will be present outside beginning at 7:55 a.m. each morning for student drop-off. Please do not release your children until a staff member signals the beginning of our process. Students will not be counted tardy until 8:05 a.m. Our afternoon pick-up procedures will begin at 3:00 p.m. If you are in a hurry, you are encouraged to be at or near the front of the line. We will implement our dismissal procedures as quickly and safely as possible for all.

Thank you very much for your support with helping ensure Lakeside maintains safety as our priority during our student entrance and dismissal each day!

The occasion may arise when the school district wants to recognize your child or your child’s school. This may include your child’s photo, your child’s name or your child’s work in district publications, newsletters, on school district websites, and in electronic/social media or in staff training videos. We may also want to tell the media (including newspapers, television, and radio) about your child’s achievements. We never knowingly release information about a student to anyone who wants to use it for commercial/political purposes. However, we will honor your request to not include your child in these types of recognitions if you notify your child’s school office in writing that you do not want this type of information released.
