Lopez Storytelling Troupe is Making History

Our Lopez MS Storytelling Troupe submitted two videotaped stories by sixth grader, Gloria Kunnapilly and 8th grader, Alyson Matson to our Texas Storytelling Representative, Rosemary Davis in Mason, TX. These two girls practiced many days after school with sponsors Jennifer Carsten, Roxanne Jenke, and Sue Kuentz to perfect their stories. Gloria was notified recently that she will be one of 5 Texas youth tellers whose videotaped story will be submitted to the National Youth Storytelling Showcase Committee who will be choosing the youth to be Torchbearers in the Showcase, September 5 -9, 2017, in Orem, Utah, in conjunction with the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival. The Texas committee liked the confidence Gloria showed in retelling a Greek myth. They stated "The gods came to life with your characterizations, good hand gestures, body language and good eye contact." We are proud and excited for Gloria to continue the traditional art of storytelling! We wish Gloria all the luck in the world!
