Query, concern, complaint - what to do?
We now have a new page on our website to answer the above question. This can be found in the Parent Information tab: Query, concern, complaint - what to do?
DROPPING OFF AND COLLECTING YOUR CHILDREN FROM SCHOOL
If you are coming into school we ask that you park out the front of school.
If you are just dropping your children off or collecting them can you please do this from the bus turnaround. Too many people are doing this out the front of school and it is an accident waiting to happen.
KIDS ART
TE RANGA TAHI PERFORMANCE 2019 - SAVE THE DATE
This year Toko School would like to showcase our learning around Kapa-haka and to celebrate our cultural learning, and to have shared kai with our friends and whanau.
Our performance will be on Wednesday 11th December at 11:30am. This will be the only performance. After the performance, we will have a hangi which we would like to ask our community for donations of food to feed everybody. This request will be sent out near the end of this term. You will need to pre-book your hangi tickets, and these will be available early next term. If there is anybody who would liked to be involved in collecting firewood or setting the hangi, helping with the menu, food preparation etc, then please let Annette know in the office.
SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB
Please ensure if you send in a cheque it is made out to Scholastic Books
PTA UPDATE
We can now confirm that we will be having calves as well as lambs this year. Our organisation will be slightly different this year. Guidelines are available here, on our website and via the school app. If you require a hard copy please contact the office.

CHESS RESULTS
Our year 5/6 team which consisted of Charis, Ben, Samara and Conrad came 15th overall (out of 18). Not a bad effort for many first timers. Our Year 7/8 team were Slade, William, Cohen and Toby and they got 9th out of 13. Well done kids, great job!

HELPING YOUR CHILDREN AT HOME
At school we use WAIT TIME.
This involves learning how to think about an answer before we say it out loud. When we think about an answer before we say it out loud, we call it wait time.
Below are some statements we are using when children practice wait time:
< It’s ok take your time.
< We will wait . . .
< Do you think you need more time . . .
< Have you thought about your answer?
< I have a question about . . .
< I don’t’ understand . . .
We are finding that when children use wait time they are thinking more deeply about their learning.
We are looking for a keen gardener to work with small groups of students and on their own to assist with growing produce, maintaining our school gardens and supporting our enviro school projects. It would be ideal if this person was also able to assist with cooking/preserving what we grow. This person would need to enjoy working with children, have initiative and be prepared to assist children to develop their ideas or interests in this space. This is a paid position. We are quite flexible in how this might work. If you are interested and would like to know more please contact Kim Waite 067622849, principal@toko.school.nz
COMMUNITY NOTICES
OPEN DAY TARANAKI DIO – Wednesday 25 September – call in anytime between 10 am and 2 pm
There will be the opportunity for personal tours of our school campus and boarding house and have any questions answered.
Due to a lot of interest from families considering the options for secondary school education for their daughters for 2020 and beyond we are looking forward to hosting our second Open Day for the year. The first round of enrolment offers for next year have been made and interviews are ongoing for a limited number of places available at all year levels in 2020. There has also been a huge registration of interest for 2021 enrolments. We anticipate that there may be a need to prioritise day girl applicants for the remaining spaces available in 2020 and for 2021.
The following is a helpful link for any families wondering about opportunities for boarding allowances:

Our annual scholarship programme for Year 9 students will also be open for applications later this month. If in the meantime you have any queries please do not hesitate to be in touch with us.
Kind regards, Fiona Green, Principal
