The BMHS high school Art Department took 23 student artists to the Regional Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) Saturday, February 18th at Mansfield Timberview High School. VASE is the UIL competition for visual arts. Students create 100% original artworks, write about them and then present the works to judges who score and critique the artwork. All of the student artists did very well with most medaling earning top scores and one rising to the top and headed to the next level.

Sophia Jones (11th grade) is headed to STATE!!! Sophia created an artwork titled "12 ct" featuring all of her personal chickens. This composition was made with Prisma Color pencils. Sophia and Miss DeVaul will be going to San Antonio in April where the artwork will compete once more for a medal and a chance to become a Gold Seal Artwork. Gold Seal art is the best of the best and will travel around the state next year to various TAEA art events. We wish Sophia the best of luck and hope her piece is awarded those top honors!

Upcoming Testing

Juniors and Seniors each have an upcoming test on March 1st. Juniors will be taking the SAT, while seniors will be taking the TSI.

Juniors are encouraged to link their College Board account to the free Khan Academy SAT resource, and can follow the instructions on this page to do so.

Most seniors needing to take the TSI are already enrolled in Texas College Bridge, which is a great TSI study program. Students are able to be exempt from the TSI through their SAT scores (530 Math, 480 Reading). See your English/Math teachers for questions about Texas College Bridge. For questions about TSI or SAT tests, please contact david.koenig@fwisd.org

Starting Tuesday, February 21 and going through Friday, March 10, our Emergent Bilingual 6th - 12th grade students will be taking the TELPAS (Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System) Test. The students who are taking this assessment have been given letters indicating date, time, and location of testing.

For more information about the state TELPAS test, visit site: https://www.texasassessment.gov/telpas.html

Interim Window 4 is fast approaching! Please make sure your students are at school -- on time to take their Interims. Tests and dates are as follows:

Math 6th - 8th grade Interims begin February 28th.

Science 8th grade Interims begin March 1st.

Social Studies 8th grade and US History (HS) Interims begin March 2nd.

Students must bring their Chrome/MacBooks fully charged and their chargers to be able to take the test.

If you have any questions or concerns about TELPAS or Interim testing, please contact Amy Jo Wagner at 817.815.7119 or email: amy.wagner@fwisd.org
