Governor Ige postpones furloughs.
Wednesday, 23 December, Governor Ige shared that due to the new COVID-19 Relief Bill furloughs would be postponed. Superintendent Kishimoto also shared that schools would not start the new year in furlough. Regardless, our schedule is not going to be impacted because our students are to report on 5 January 2021 as scheduled. The governor shared the following:
"We are still in the middle of the pandemic, and cases are surging across the mainland and in countries across the globe. The key to protecting our health and reviving our economy remains practicing the 3W’s – wearing masks, washing hands and watching distances. Please celebrate safely to prevent the virus from spreading in our community this holiday season.
I appreciate your hard work and dedication this year as you provided important services to our residents throughout the pandemic. Together, we will continue this work in 2021.
Stay safe, be well, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
With warmest regards,
David Y. Ige

HIDOE partners with DonorsChoose to help educators fund classroom projects and resources
The Hawaii State Department of Education (HIDOE) today announced a new partnership with the national nonprofit DonorsChoose, an education crowdfunding site that helps teachers obtain financial support for classroom projects and resources.
“Our educators understand the unique needs of their students better than anyone,” said Superintendent Dr. Christina Kishimoto. “Through DonorsChoose, teachers are empowered to use that knowledge to obtain the necessary resources that help to turn their classroom visions into reality while providing them with the opportunity to strengthen their community relationships. We’re grateful for this partnership and for the generous donors who are helping our schools become stronger, so that our haumana can thrive.”

COVID-19 Resource Nurse at Kaimukī High School
Aloha,
My name is Kenna Gardes and I am the new COVID-19 Resource Nurse at Kaimukī High School! This position has been created through the Hawaii Keiki Program, a partnership program between the DOE and the UH Manoa School of Nursing. I am available as an educator, consultant, health resource and clinician. I am here to support the entire KMR complex this school year but I also have a clinic in room E101 where I can assess students and provide education, basic treatment and medication (with consent) to Kaimukī students.
I am originally from Idaho, but I moved to Honolulu over 12 years ago to attend UH Manoa. I am a Registered Nurse and just completed my master's degree from UH in Advanced Population Health Nursing. I live in Palolo with my husband and enjoy gardening, cooking and playing soccer in my free time. I am so happy to be in the KMR complex and on the Kaimukī campus.
