The Giver
Lois Lowry Flyer by Marlan Martin
-Summary of the Book-
Jonas,a young boy, lives in a world where everyone and everything is controlled. The "perfect" community. After the ceremony of twelve, where they asign those who turned twelve to a specific job, Jonas meets The Giver. An aging man who brought many things to Jonas' attention. Jonas starts to learn things about his community which scare him and he couldn't believe at first. Dark secrets gave him power. The power of knowledge has driven him to escape, to be able to protect those he loves and himself, something no one has done without consequence.
-Jonas-
Jonas is a very polite and sensitive 12 year old boy who in the ceremony of twelve was given Receiver of Memory. A great honor to the community. It troubles him that he can't tell anyone what he is seeing or feeling. He goes through the heart aches of facing the girl he likes but can't tell her anything and lies instead. He tries to escape to free the memories he has that the Giver has given him but also tooka an innocent child with him. Gabriel. The new child his parents were taking care of and his father was to release.
Some VIP's
Rosemary
Very determined and honest. She seemed to overcome the things thrown at her until it was just too much and she couldn't take it anymore. She was the Givers daughter.
The Giver
He suffers from the pain of his memories. He's very kind and straightforward. Not afraid to show emotion when deemed necessary. He was and still is sad about what happened to Rosemary. He is scared but proud of Jonas and his escape.
Fiona
Beautiful and intelligent. A very grateful young lady with the strenght of a bull. She has a very strong, loving heart. She wants to go with Jonas but thinks its better to stay and escape some other time.
Very interesting and intriguing!

-Likes and Dislikes-
What I personally like about this book is Jonas' will power to not give up on trying to make things right.
One of my favorite quotes from this book is, "Memories are Forever" and another one is, "The worst part of holding the memories is not the pain. It's the loneliness of it. Memories need to be shared." Both of these quotes were said by The Giver.
What I find horrible about this book is that it's a community full of rules! You can't do anything!! You can't even see color.. And that is one of the most beautiful things there are in life. Same thing goes for wildlife.. Jonas doesn't even know what a squirrel is!
