Happiness is a choice, not a result. Nothing can make you happy until you choose to be happy. No person will make you happy unless you decide to be happy. Your happiness will not come to you, it can only come from you.

Studio Art News

TAB: Teaching for Artistic Behaviors: this is the teaching method I use in Studio in Art, Drawing and Painting and Sculpture and Ceramics. It means that students learn skills, techniques, how to use materials, concepts, art history and culture in daily mini-lessons, and they use the rest of the time to create art that THEY choose. They learn to think and behave like artists, who are constantly exploring, experimenting, expressing themselves, making decisions, solving problems, and reflecting on what they’ve made and how to move forward. The teacher does NOT tell them what to make or how to make it, but rather serves as a coach, mentor, and supporter throughout the creative process. This way of working gives our students the chance to make work that is meaningful to them, instead of what is meaningful to the teacher, while building on all of the skills and concepts necessary to grow as an artist.
