Message from the Principal
Hello Willow Dale Families!
May is here! As the school year approaches the final six weeks, we will continue with our keen focus on academics and positive climate building, but will also take time to pause and celebrate with a variety of fun events. With the PSSAs behind us, students will continue to work hard and finish the year strong. We are so proud of grade 3, 4, and 5 students for their tenacity and efforts over the last two testing weeks.
Kudos to Mr. Martin, the staff, and the entire Drama club, for putting on an outstanding performance of Beauty and the Beast Jr! Over 70 cast and crew members worked long hours over the last few months to perfect their talents. We are fortunate to have very talented students at Willow Dale. Both performances wowed the crowds. A special thank you goes to the parents and the Home & School for all of their support. A slideshow with pictures can be found below in the newsletter. The video will be posted in next week’s newsletter for those who were unable to attend.
This week marks Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week. Please join me in thanking all teachers and staff at Willow Dale Elementary School for their dedication and hard work every day with our students. Thank you to the teachers and staff for all you do!
Fine Arts Week begins on Monday evening! Be sure to add some time in your calendar to view the many showcases that demonstrate our students’ wonderful and talented artistic side. We are pleased to have so many Willow Dale students represent our super school! Congratulations to all involved, as it truly celebrates great work. Their professionalism and enthusiasm are testaments to the great work that they put into their craft each day, and for the leadership of their teachers.
We look forward to seeing you at the various events this week. All the best for a great week!

Fifth-grade Students Create and Donate Blessing Bags
Blessing Bags
On Friday, April 26, the fifth grade participated in a heartfelt activity. As a grade, we put together over 250 Blessing Bags to go to the Angels in Motion organization. These bags made up of snacks and a kind note will be delivered by the organization to those less fortunate throughout the area. It was amazing to see the students come together not only to create a bag of goodies but to write a note of encouragement or a happy thought. As we told the fifth grade, they are now ‘angels’ for someone and will give a smile to whoever opens their bag. This activity was made possible through a grant from our wonderful Centennial Education Foundation. We thank them for giving us the opportunity to make someone else’s day.

Volunteers Needed for the Career Day on May 24
Willow Dale is looking for a variety of people interested in spending a day talking to our students about their career. Many of our students are unaware of the career opportunities available to them and this is a fantastic way to provide them with first-hand knowledge of potential career paths. This is also a great way for you to get involved at Willow Dale and make an impact on the students’ future.
If you are interested, please complete the short form below. We would love to have a robust group of volunteers. If you know someone or have any connections, please send them the information.
The 2019 Willow Dale Elementary School Career Day is May 24 from 9:00- 11:00 AM.
Thank you in advance for your involvement! (If you have any questions or would like to get further information please contact Leanne Hopkins (hopkle@centennialsd.org) or Deidra O'Brien (obride@centennialsd.org)
Student Dress Reminders
As the Spring season is upon us, it is important to remember to dress according to the weather.
Hopefully, the days will become and remain warm and dry (at least during the school day), which will lead to more time spent outside on the playground! To that end, it is essential that students are coming to school prepared for the various weather conditions we will experience. As the temperatures do rise, please remember that flip flops, slides, and sandals are not permissible as footwear, as they pose a safety concern throughout the building and outside on the playground.
We don’t want anyone to sustain an injury!
Additionally, please be reminded that the school is air-conditioned and can be cooler inside.
Thank you for your support.
