Nebraska State Fair Static Projects Pick Up
We still have quite a few projects from the Nebraska State Fair that need picked up!
If you could have them picked up by next Friday, that would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Career Portfolio - NEW in 2018 - Annual Achievement Application
Nebraska and Saunders County 4-H are excited to announce the new Achievement Application (https://4h.unl.edu/annual-achievement-application) form that will be used as an alternative to the Career Portfolio and is available to youth this fall as a pilot.
The Achievement Application will be used for awards in the county and will also be used at the state level to selection winners for 4-H Congress, Conference, scholarships, and other leadership opportunities that arise statewide.
For the 2017-2018 reporting year (due NOVEMBER 1, 2018), youth can opt to use either the new Achievement Application or the current Career Portfolio. To access the Nebraska 4-H Achievement Application, go to: (https://4h.unl.edu/annual-achievement-application).
Shooting Sports Instructor Report
Please make every effort to submit your report by October 15th or sooner. The electronic reporting form will close after October 15th.
You can access the on-line reporting form by going to:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScluvBvM8GJHSBjyPV5nOzrhMX2ovUGWMne-AIpAaF1L4PUPw/viewform
Please note effective October 1, 2017
· All instructors must teach youth or assist in instruction of youth, a minimum of four hours in their respective discipline(s) every year.
· Instructors must also complete and submit their annual instructor report (on-line format) to the state coordinator to remain a certified instructor in their respective discipline.
· Enroll in their respective 4-H Shooting Sports project(s) area in their county. Instructors should also complete leader release form and code of conduct.
It is important for the Nebraska and National programs to be able to show the level of involvement of our volunteer instructors. Last year, volunteer 4-H Shooting Sports instructors contributed more than 43,425 hours towards the five categories of youth involvement with over 32,087 youth contacts across Nebraska.

Midwest Messenger, 4-H Club or FFA Chapter of the Week
To honor our hardworking Nebraska youth in agriculture, the Midwest Messenger is featuring a new 4-H Club/FFA Chapter of the Week spotlight. Each week, a new club or chapter is highlighted on a sponsored full page display in the paper, featuring a photograph of current members and a brief biography of the club/chapter’s history and accomplishments. Finally, to boost their organization’s endeavors, the Midwest Messenger is giving each featured group a $50 gift card.
As this is a new program, we are hoping to lean on our state Extension agents and ag advocates to help spread the word about this recognition to 4-H leaders — and FFA educators, whenever applicable — within their counties, so that all Nebraska 4-H and FFA groups can start taking advantage of this honor. Please consider forwarding this information to your local ag youth leaders, and any other contacts who may be interested in nominating a 4-H Club or FFA Chapter for this accolade.
The nomination form can be found on our website at https://www.agupdate.com/midwestmessenger/forms/f4h_club_ffa_chapter_of_the_week/.
The 4-H Club/FFA Chapter spotlight will appear each week in the print edition of the Messenger, as well as online at www.midwestmessenger.com and our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/midwestmessenger.
For any questions about this program or submitting a nomination, please contact Katy Moore at (402) 374-2225 ext. 122, katy.moore@lee.net.
Thank you for helping us celebrate the accomplishments of Nebraska’s ag youth — the next generation of America’s proud farmers, ranchers, and ag advocates.
