The Holocaust (Shoah)
The tragic story of anti-semitism 1933-1945
The main entrance to Auschwitz concentration camp (Gates of Hell)
Once you entered these gates there was no turning back. At least 1.1 million prisoners died at Auschwitz, around 90 percent of them Jewish; approximately 1 in 6 Jews killed in the Holocaust died at the camp.
Death toll.
Unfortunately millions arrived but merely hundreds left. This was the meaning of Genocide.
Second and final checkpoint gate to Auschwitz.
ARBEIT MACHT FRE. (Work will set you free) When the Jews saw this message above the entrance they took it as mockery because they knew that they would surely die here.
Crematory Chamber
When the Jewish prisoners died there was no proper burial instead they were sure to be cremated.
Security
The Germans made it very clear that there would be NO ESCAPE. Despite the Germans harsh security system many Jewish prisoners were able to escape.
This was TORTURE !
Tattoos from the Aushwitz Concentration camp
They tattooed the prisoners not only to keep track of them and torture them but also to make the statement that they would never be free again.
