Congratulations Tanner!!! We are so PROUD of you and your consistency in showing LEADERSHIP!!!
Tanner a junior at WAHS and recently received his Eagle Scout rank, the highest rank in the Scouts BSA program. Did you know that only 8% of the 2.2 million registered youth in Scouts BSA actually attain the rank of Eagle Scout?
On Saturday, April 23, Tanner was presented with his Eagle Scout rank and six Eagle Palms at his Eagle Court of Honor. He began his Scouting career as a Cub Scout in Pack 63. In the fifth grade, he earned the highest rank in Cub Scouting, the Arrow of Light, and crossed over to Scouts BSA Troop 63. Since joining Troop 63 he has held almost every leadership position, including Senior Patrol Leader, the highest leadership position in the Troop. He has also been inducted into the Order of the Arrow, Scouting's honor society, and currently holds a Brotherhood membership. He is a staff member for our local Scout camp, Camp Ho Non Wah on Wadmalaw Island, and recently staffed BSA National Youth Leadership Training as well. Since earning Eagle rank he has continued to encourage and mentor the youth in his Troop as an Assistant Scoutmaster.
To earn the rank of Eagle Scout, a Scout must fulfil a stringent list of requirements in the areas of leadership, service, and outdoor skills. One of the main requirements is to plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to a religious institution, school, or community. Tanner's Eagle Scout project is a fire pit and patio at Old St. Andrews Parish Church. The fire pit will be used for the Church's annual flag retirement ceremony performed by Troop 63 on May 29. It also serves as a gathering place for the Church's community outreach and youth activities.
