Math, Science, and Social Studies
Math-We had a very productive week in math fluency. Students are doing an amazing job passing their final accuracy check. We have had 25 students pass in the past two weeks and many more who are super close. We will have two more opportunities this week on Wednesday and Friday. I will be sending home extra practice tests each day that your child can use at home.
We will spend some time in class practicing. Please make sure your child is studying at home if they haven't passed yet. Weekly Math Fact Fluency Logs are due this Friday. Students are to spend 10 minutes per night studying ALL facts. On the math log, students will log the time practiced, the activity they did, and get a parent signature. There is a total of 40 minutes required.
I would like to say a big thank you to my homeroom for doing an amazing job last week while a group of teachers from Central Elementary visited. They were very impressed with your willingness to share your thoughts and mathematical strategies with them to solve problems. I am so proud of both classes and the work ethic given each day to become better math students.
This week we will take some of our daily math block time to work on some Christmas crafts. The students are in for a time to stimulate their creativity while having a lot of fun!
Social Studies-Our 5 Historical Documents projects are coming along nicely. Students will be putting their final touches on their Google presentations Monday and Tuesday. I hope to have students present their presentations to both classes on Wednesday.
Reading, Writing and Word Study
Reading: We will be watching The Best Christmas Pageant movie this week to compare/contrast the book and the movie.
There is NO fluency homework coming home for this week! Instead we will be working on fluency in class using Christmas carols and silly Christmas songs.
Writing: We will be doing a ton of writing projects this week! Snow globes will come home later in the week. We will wrap up our Santa's new suit writing as well. We will work on two surprise projects that will come home wrapped later this week. We will also write about hot chocolate as we enjoy some on Friday! Most holiday writing will come home on Thursday for you to enjoy.
