East Elementary Parent Connection
The Bucks Start Here!
Happy New Year!
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year. Hopefully, you and your child got some much needed rest away from homework and getting up so early in the morning. The first week back from break can take some adjusting to get back in the routine. If mornings are difficult, hang in there and things should get back to normal. We are so excited to be starting the second semester at East. Your child will continue to grow, learn and change in amazing ways. I am not always so successful at sticking to my New Year's resolutions; however, I have made one very important one this year that I hope I can be mindful of each day. If you are like me, the daily grind of a busy life can leave you feeling drained and even frustrated with your child and family. My resolution this year is to try my best to cherish each moment (even the frustrating ones) with my own family and the children I encounter each day! With my own four-year old at home, time seems to fly by in a flash. My goal is to slow down and enjoy the little moments. I encourage you to share in that mindfulness along with me. I hope you have a wonderful 2017.
Sincerely,
Barbara Collinsworth

Attendance
Attending school is so important in your child’s success at school. Routine and consistency are so vital to building strong school habits. Texas Education Law mandates that children attend 90% of a school year. Students that miss school often have gaps in their learning that can lead to struggles down the road. Regardless of whether the absences are excused or not, children who do not meet the required state attendance mandates are in jeopardy of having to attend summer school or possible grade retention to fill in the gaps. Besides all of this, we simply love having your child at school. We work daily to build a love of learning, exploring, and inquiring at East, and we want your child to be able to flourish in that environment. We are fast approaching our 100th day of school which means 10 absences is right at that 90% requirement mark. Please help us as we build that love of learning in your child! Please encourage them, motivate them and reward them for coming to school! Unfortunately, as we know, children do get sick and those types of things cannot be helped. We understand that fever, vomiting and other illnesses do arise. In those instances, we do ask that you keep them home so that the illness does not continue to spread. I also am well aware that many times mornings are a hectic time that can lead to a ton of stress as a parent that frankly, sometimes you might just not have the energy to tackle. The following article has some great tips that have helped me to make my mornings a little more calm, so I thought I would share. https://www.verywell.com/morning-madness-tips-for-getting-kids-up-and-ready-616604

************WHERE YA HEADED??**********
The Where Ya Headed Campaign continues to be a great benefit to the community of Breckenridge. We want to encourage students to continue to think about their goals. Talking to children about what they want to be and what they have to do to achieve that goal is so important. Thank you for helping to support our Where Ya Headed Campaign efforts. If you are interested in talking to students about your job and what it took for you to achieve your goals, please contact Mrs. Collinsworth at barbara.collinsworth@breckenridgeisd.org.
