Active Learning Principles and Application Active Learning is an approach developed by Dr. Lilli Nielsen. But what do these actually mean? What does this actually look like in a 6- Algebra math classroom? Join this collaborative session between Region 16 Inclusive Service and Practice for Improved Student Outcomes and Secondary Math specialists to learn about the supplemental aids that are allowed and experience how students would use these. Supporting Sensory Needs and Sensitivities in the Home and Community Children with disabilities may respond to sensory stimulation in various ways; some may seek out “bigger” sensory feelings while others may avoid or react negatively to certain types of sensory exposure. Participants will learn the various senses involved with sensory input, understand the difference between hypersensitivity and hyposensitivity, and ways to support their children’s individual needs. This virtual session will meet on November 17, 2023 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. | Supporting Individuals with Complex Needs on Job Sites Students with Special Education needs receive job coaching and job supports in their job exploration course work while they are in school. Those with more complex needs often remain in school-supported training programs past the age of 18. As job coaches and employment trainers, what supports do we need to consider for our students who are on job sites? How can we help our students build independence and self-advocacy skills in their work? We will investigate various support strategies and apply those to actual work environments. This session will meet November 27, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at our Cleveland Campus. | Creating a Shared Space: Building an Effective Para/Teacher Team Sharing classroom responsibilities and workload with a paraprofessional can be a relief to general education teachers. However, it can also be difficult to "share" this space with another adult, continuing to do what is best for students and often following legally-binding paperwork. You will leave this session with a toolbox full of strategies and ideas to support a successful working relationship with your paraprofessional through communication, mutual respect, and valuing each other as part of the team.
