Social Media Concerns
Additionally, we are seeing a rise in school incidents that are linked directly to students' misuse of social media accounts such as Instagram and Snap Chat. Students are using their own phones or even using friends' phones to make inappropriate comments to their peers. These incidents, most often, are results of texting conversations that occur outside of the school day (weeknights and/or weekends) and are then carried over into the school day. Students are so preoccupied with the social media drama and their peers responses to what is posted that their own education is being impacted. This is an issue that needs the attention of all the adults in our students' lives. We need to work together to help our children navigate this technology and use it as it was intended. Thank you for your attention and assistance.

Important: Rising Freshman Orientation Nights
Attention all 8th Graders and Their Families:
St. Mary’s County Public Schools will host three Rising Freshman Orientation Nights this March. The Rising Freshman Orientation Nights will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6th at Leonardtown High School; Thursday, March 7th at Great Mills High School; and Thursday, March 14th at Chopticon High School.
Families are welcome to attend any night. All information will be repeated each night. For more information, contact the Office of Curriculum and Instruction at 301-475-5511, extension 32104 or email classof2023@smcps.org.
