Today, at Plano East, we conducted a random metal detector search as authorized by Plano ISD Policy FNF (Local). There was no threat or concern that initiated the random metal detector search, but it was instead conducted for the purpose of preventing and deterring weapons on campus.
These searches are part of the district's ongoing efforts to provide a safe learning environment. All efforts were made to minimize inconvenience to students and the educational process. The search used walk-through and hand-held metal detectors operated by district security personnel and supervised by campus administrators. No student was impacted for longer than 15 minutes in the search today.
All students that were searched should come home with an information page for parents and students. We thank you for your support in keeping Plano East safe!
